This I've read as another thread on Cnet forums but it's intresting to say the least will Sony or have they put the RootKit on there Sony VAIO brand line of PC's and Laptops.

It's now concluded that it's invading people's rights's or privacy or whatever which I believe it is. But can Sony still put it on there VAIO line and get away with it since it's there product.

more info would rock, maybe a link or a better explaination. right now i'm really only getting enough out of what you've posted to say huh-wha? so are they like adding this rootkit directly into the windows install cd or is it like part of their "applications" disk or something of that sorts...because if its on the windows cd thats horrible and crappy, if its just from one of the apps discs then it's not hard to do a fresh install anyways....i always do with new prebuilt hardware.

It's the right to privacy, or the reasonable expectation of privacy.

They would have to get a specially negotiated liscense from Microsoft in order to integrate their rootkit into the Windows Installer process. I find it possible, but unlikely.

In conclusion, don't buy Sony.

Theres a post in general about this, but I find it funny they have tons of people 'stealing' their music and they punish the people who buy it.

Good thinking sony.
