ok, so yesterday i installed my creative x-fi and it was working perfectly.then I shutdown my pc went to sleep and woke up only to find that my sound card is again uninstlled...
when i say search on CD for drivers it basically does nothing. I tried reinstalling the driver but again it does noothing.
I tried installing the driver that windows already has for it but it says device was unable to start (code 10)
any idea how i can get my sound to work? :-/

Try downloading the latest drivers from the Creative website. My X850 wouldn't install correctly with the drivers that came on the disc, let alone the Windows disc, had to get the latest from ATi's website.

ive tried both he CD drivers and the website drivers neither work. i think mostly the problem is that windows wont install the drivers to the card. hardware wizarddetects that its a sound card but doesnt search CD for drivers and when i install the site drivers they just dont associate with the card i guess

Use driver cleaner and completely uninstall the card and then reinstall. That should fix the problem. Oh and just to make sure, you are using 32bit Windows XP roght?

you can also try putting the card in another pci slot. That will trick windows into treating the card as completely new to your system.
