ok.. i've narrowed down to the glaciator 2 and the sk-6 from much research and you guys (thanks dudes!!:)). i'm leaning towares the glaciator because its much quieter than the rest.. just a couple questions here.. is it really THAT heavy? i should probably get a shim with it right? is it a 3 pin connector or 4 pin? i dont want to fry my board now. this is going to cool the xp 1800 cpu on the MSI k7tpro ver2 board. thanks for the advise!

I think w/ that much weight, you'll want a shim. And you shouldn't plug high-speed fans into the mobo, for fear of burning out the fan header.

I use the Glaciator II and although it is surpisingly heavy I do and always have used it without a shim which is no problem and no real concern as the quality and finish of this heatsink is like no other I have seen. The clip is awesome imho and exceptionally easy to fit.
The fan does not have a high power consumption and as such runs of the mobo header withough problem.
I would personally say that a shim is NOT required, but I would not advice leaving the heatsink on during transit of your PC.

ahh. thanks. i was going to ask about the installation process.. its good that its quite simple rather than the old globalwin designs.. may i ask hows your temps with that?

My temps are around 32c full load with an overclocked/unlocked 1 ghz AXIA K Athlon on a Epox Kha+ with a 160 mhz FSB, however I do also have a full tower and decent case cooling

I have the Glaciator also and never used a shim on my 1.33gig AHYJA-Y, they make temps actually rise, amd i use the mobo header for hte stock HSFan, it is rated to easily run on the board header. Temps to follow--

The Glaciator is a good heatsink. i used it for a while, and as long as you are carefull you should not have any trouble with it falling off. Just don't put it upside down in the car when transporting, ext.

Why not? I have one and it works well.

I also have an SK6 and it does a fine job of cooling my o/ced TBird.
