go 4 X-FI !??

hi all !! i will go straight to the point:

1. Currently using Audigy 2 ZS + Creative T7700 7.1 speakers, should i upgrade to x-fi for betta music(mp3) and gaming sounds? why !?

2. Any difference between Audigy 2 ZS and Audigy 4 !? which one is betta!?

3. Any combination(sound card + speakers) suggest for both excellent music and gaming sounds? Both 5.1 and 7.1 systems.

1) Audigy2 ZS is good enough. Those Creative's you have won't justify getting the X-Fi. Speakers are the more important component. No matter how good the sound produced is from the card, it can't do better than the speakers allow.
2) Audigy4 is better, one of the more decent Creative cards:

3) What you have is fine. For high end: X-Fi XtremeMusic and 5.1 Klipsch Promedia.

All of the XFIs except the elite pro use the same DACS and Opamps as an audigy 2. The sound quality on uncompressed files should be at the same level on the audigy 2. This is why you are reading quite a few reviews where people can not tell a difference even when they have nice speakers or headphones.

hey i went over to head-fi and read some threads last night, not surprised to find you and emon there, i read about the DACS and Opamps but i thought the superior chip on the X-Fi's would sound better even as the other components are the same and at least the upsampling problem would gone

You may be right on the upsampling issues as I have not heard much on that but I see the XFI as a Side Step and not really a upgrade.

that review doesn't really say anything real, all it does is compare numbers which doesn't really say much, creative always works on these kind of specs, how it handles sounds thrown at it is what you want to see

the 3 lower X-Fi cards use the same opamps and DACs as the audigy2 cards and a lot of people don't notice the difference between the cards especially with nicer speakers, with not so good speakers creatives make a big difference and sound much better

the review makes no mention of quality DACs which are essential, and also no mention of the sounds produced and their balancing, with nice speakers the mystique is supposed to sound a lot better

EMU (creatives audiofile brand) is rumored to be coming out with a card designed for audiophiles with all the game goodies, more than likely it will be a slightly different version of the elite pro, I am really just hoping it will be at a lower price point. Oh it is rumored to have the X-Ram though I tend to think the whole X-ram thing is a gimick.
