View Full Version : WinXP install Problem
Yesterday night, I tried to install WinXP on my comp, but after booting from the CD and started loading some drivers, it stopped on Starting Windows Setup something...
How should I install WinXP correctly? It stopped accesing the hardisk and even the CD!!!!!
Thanks in advance
was it a CDRW you were using to install from. I had the same problem had to switch out the hd and use a different computer! I don't know why but my other CDRW/HD would stop working.
Try making the boot disks (there are 5 of them) rather than booting off of the CD.
No I was installing with the DVD!!!!
If this is the same problem I was having. It' did'nt lockup it just copies the files Very Very slow. Try sticking "Smartdrv" on a floppy then get to a dos prompt and run Smartdrv. Then go back and start a fresh install of Win XP. It will speed up the copying of the files. It makes a world of difference. If this is the same problem I was having. I could be wrong though.

I have this problem before. This is mainly related to the GeForce2 MX gpu. I fixed mine by Replacing my current GeForce2MX 200 with an older TNT2 Ultra and the set-up was completed without problems... I just returned my GeForceMX back later... others fixed this by flashing the VideoCard BIOS with the latest versions...
here's a thread at amdmb.com about the XP install problem on GeForce MX video cards.... http://www.amdmb.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66914
So far I've heard 4 different and certain reasons/possibilities :p.
Thanks for the advice I will try them as soon as I arrive home...
