hey everybody,
new here. question about atitool usage.
i understand that you test your core and mem for 'max clock' individually, but just a question of detail... say i find my max core clock from the stock core/mem settings. then to find my max mem clock, do i reset the core clock to stock or maintain the newly derived max?
vid card in sig. cheers.

Some times using atitool to find max OC causes system instability or even a hang. I usually raise frequency by about 5-10mhz, then check for artifacts in 3dmark05. Once you have achieved a OC say on the GPU, test for stability using 3dmark or another benchmark and make sure there are no artifacts visual to your eye. With the memory, once youk now for sure that your GPU clock is stable then you can clock the memory in the same manner.

thanks. but you didn't really answer my question.
I am using the ati tool to achieve an 'overclocked baseline' from which I will tweak using both visual inspection (as you suggested) and additional utilities such as radlinker.
can someone give a simple response to the initial question? cheers.

You put it back to stock- so if you get artifacts you know which one is doing them. Then when you're all done with your max ocs put the two together and run another stability test and if you can go without artifcats you're set.

bro I've overclocked many video cards and I was saying that using ATI tool to find max clocks is not the best idea.
To answer your question, once you OC the core, keep the OC on the core and start on the memory. Resetting the core to default clock will make any OC on the memory irrevant to the OC'ed core since they weren't both achived with eachother. As long as the core is stable, then it will have no bad effects on determinging the memory max OC.
If you want to do it the hard way, then do it using ATItool find max OC.

Is that stock cooling on your 9800XT? I have the Artic-silencer 3 on mine and can reach ~455core and 400mem on it.

Jacobman,
I hace an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer that I just mounted on the card. Just getting ready to try an OC on this card.
The card was purchased as a 9800pro 256mb, but upon discovery of R360 core, flashed to XT.
