View Full Version : Nano screen cracked, best course of action?

I had my nano in my jacket pocket today, and I took my jacket off and threw it on the chair. I sat down and heard a CRRRRACK. I thought I had broken the nano in half, but when I took it out just the screen was cracked and now the screen doesn't work at all other than a very small area in the lower lefthand corner. The rest just displays funky colors. It still plays music fine, so at least it's not a total loss.

I was wondering what the best course of action from here is. I called AppleCare and filled out a service request form, but I honestly feel like any company worth a damn would give me a new iPod. I want to believe that Apple is worth a damn, so there has to be something they'll do for me, right? So far all the service reps I've talked to have been less than helpful, and when I called the Apple Store near me I couldn't even manage to speak to a human. The closet I got was the voice mail for their business sales department.

I am planning on paying a visit to the Apple Store later this week and handing out fliers/telling people to not buy the nano. It is inevitable that you will forget it is in your pocket and sit on it at some point. I know this because I was very careful with it and it still happened to me. It's not even like I sat on it, I just shifted my weight wrong and it got pinned between the side of my leg and the chair. Hopefully if I can convince enough people to not buy it the manager of the store will take notice and do something for me. I don't know. I'm just a little disappointed that Apple made the screen so flimsy, and that they're being so tight about it.

Has anyone else been able to find a way to get their broken nano replaced?

I thought Apple had a recall on the first batch of nano's? They said the screens were defective...more so scratching too easily, but I guess your crack may slide in under the defective screen recall if it is one of the first ones.

is there a range of serial numbers that have the defective screen? None of the cs reps I spoke to before said anything about a recall. I'm gonna swing by the Apple Store tomorrow and see if they'll replace it for me. I called my friend who had the same problem and he said he took it to the Apple Store near him and they just gave him a new one.

If you are going to the Apple Store anyway, I'm sure they will be able to tell you if in fact a recall has occured, and if so, if your Nano is eligible.

I went to the Apple Store and they just took it and gave me a new one, no questions asked. If only the people on the phone could've just told me that...
