My motherboard says it is supports:

Pata: 2 x ATA 133 up to 4 devices
Sata: 4 x SATA II

But I'm not exactly sure where that leaves me with my hard drive selections.

I know they have SATA 3.0Gb/s HDD (also SATA 300MB/s) and also Serial ATA 150 hard drives. Would my motherboard be compatible with both of these... and is one better ot faster? Something tells me that Pata is the older standard and Sata is the newer one, but I'm not sure exactly what SATA II suports. Thanks a lot.

SATA II is SATA 3.0 Gb/s I believe. You are compadable with both. SATA II is newer, PATA is IDE right? I do know it's older though.

The interface is, but what's gonna hold you back is the drive speed. Most drives won't run much faster on IDE v. SATA II (at least the 7.2K ones). Shoot, the very first Raptors were actually true IDE drives, they just used a IDE to SATA converter so they ran off the SATA interface.
