Welcome to the forums Vega. This post should probably be in the cooling forums but never the less you need to give some more info before anyone can help you properly.
What kind of HSF are you using?
Are you using AS2? Did you apply it properly?
How many fans do you have in your case? Where are they and how much cfm do they produce?
What is the room temp where you are keeping your comp.?
Well dont feel bad Vega. I just put together a system with an AK 32 Shuttle board and a 1.4 Athalon. I have a stock heat sink and fan on the cpu and a 60mm fan on the intake and exhaust. I was running around 60 degrees also until i took the side of the case off. Now im running at 51. I reseated the heat sinkbut not with ASII cause it hasnt come yet. I'm still searching for the right fix too. I am also going to buy another heatsink and fan just not sure wich one yet. Yes someone please help us newbies out.

I had that problem when i bought my 1.2gig athlon but mine was running at nearly 90c.
If you have bought the "machine" from a retailer then it will still have the standard themal pad on the h/s, if this is the problem then a thin layer of thermal paste should do the trick :)
As aluminum HSFs with a copper insert go, that Taisol is a pretty good choice. As was already stated, make darn sure you remove the thermal pad, if it comes with one, then clean it thoroughly and apply some kind of HS grease. Those PCI slot fans aren't worth the time it takes to throw them over the hill. If your case does not have provisions for both intake and exhaust fans, consider modding the case to accomodate some. Also, 60mm is a relatively inadequate size for case ventillation. You need hefty 80mm fans or bigger. One pushing fresh air in and one pulling warm air out. One of each is, in my opinion, a minimum standard.
Hoot
I have a 1Ghz Athlon overclocked to 1.2Ghz with thermal and Coolermaster cooler and my temp is 39C idle 44C load. I have no case fans at all.
:) What can I say???
Thanx 2 u all, especially hoot
Now running at 51c under load
Have put extra 80mmn fan drawing air in, and an 80 mm fan pulling the warm air out.
But 1 more question!!!!!!
What heat sink and fan could keep it even cooler to start clocling the chip???????

This is the best air cooling heatsink yet...

I don't know... we got some pretty low hills around here... :D
But seriously, try a few dfferent things. Reversing the fan on your HS, getting a better fan (if you can put up with the noise), rounded IDE cables, etc...
