Is the nimda worm likely to any damage to a stand alone on a 56k ?

Probably not. Its not really a damage worm. More of an annoyance. It'll constantly ping ports looking for a way out, thus increasing network traffic and raising latency on the network. I wouldn't worry if you're on a 56k dialup though.

It does however replicate files on your system over a period of time and reduce system performance as such I would say yes.
