Yeah the shipping says "4-6 weeks"....who cares their free LOL. Plus, I need a new HDD before I install Linux....last time I screwed up WinXP...so I want a backup HDD...I need one anyway.

If you are careful to install it to a seperate partition and set up GRUB correctly you shouldn't need a new hard drive. But if you need one anyway it might be easier/safer. I'm going to order a few of these. I always end up burning new ones because I lose my unlabeled disks among the clutter.

You can also get people here on the forums to send you Linux cds:
http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=236968
Mostly you have to send them something like a self-addressed envelope and a cdr, though.

I ordered 50 x86 and 10 x86_64 when they first started doing this. I gave them to a local computer shop to hand out..... That and some lil trick or treaters got linux in their sacks.

I ordered some a couple months ago and I got them within a couple weeks. I wanna say two. That was the second batch I ordered though. The first batch took FOREVER. I actually forgot I ordered them, then when they came it was like a big huge suprise!

I had grub "infect" itself on my win2000 partition a few years back when I was trying to install Linux. It was hell trying to get it off. Maybe Ill try again soon.

Of course, in the time it took them to send those discs I had already downloaded and burned my own install & live copies of Ubuntu and had time to use it quite effectively when my my main Windows PC boot drive failed

Nice to have the extra copies, though, as I'll be handing 'em out to friends and such.

Yeah, good point, I like it cause I didn't have to use up a bunch of my own CDs to burn them.

Ordered 25 of PC and 64-bit. I figure my brother can hand them out to the "geeks" he works with at the IT department at his college. Thank you very much for the linkage.

Check out the Alternative OS's section of the forum, they should be able to easily help you with that. :)

That or Ubuntu's forums.

What could you ever need 300 for?! Geez... I thought I was pushing it when I ordered 100 (50 x86/50 x86_64) a few minutes ago.

Chances are you won't get 300. They cut me down from 70 to 50.

You'll probably get A LOT less than 300.

Ive gotten a couple shipments in now... My G/F keeps getting more and more ****ed when she sees the big white envelope. She knows theres more clutter on its way! Oh well I see if you order 50 you get a box so what the hell Ill try for 70 :)

Why?

Do you believe that if it is free you have to take as much as possible? ...or are you just afraid you misspelled the addresses.

Are you trying to abuse the system? Don't do that dude, it's not cool.

guys anybody have a working system with ubunto installed? instead of abusing the link, would any of you mind sending me one in exchange for shipping and heat?

*** this is not a for sale/to buy post. a mere exchange, nothing is being sold or purchased, only compensation for the shipment of said disk and heatware evaluation as a good favor of faith ***

(don't want to violate any forum rules :) ).

thanks, i'm an xxxtreme newby, i can barely get windows formatted successfully :)

i'll do some reading and researching, the closest thing to linux i've run is a smoothwall.

i bought a book called "linux complete". i'm hoping to learn and implement it successfully in my own network/webserver(i hope to have one someday).

I've never ordered a CD, but I love ubuntu as well as kubuntu, I'm not a linux master but these distros are worth your time. Every computer one of my relatives/sister uses runs this since I used to have to de-spyware all they're computers every 2 months. Needless to say my 80 year old grandma had no trouble going from win98 to ubuntu to check her mail/weather/lotto/solitare :).
