hi, i'm thinking about dumping my ibook g4 for a PC laptop. the apple has been fun and it has never let me down but the lack of a pc card slot is a big drawback since i'm looking to go WWAN in the near future.

in the pc-compatible realm i like sony and fujitsu. i'm looking for something that:

** weighs under five pounds
** has at least four hours of battery life
* has a bright screen (and pretty much every sony and fujitsu i've seen has a really good screen on it)
** is 64-bit
* has built-in wi-fi (and i think that every laptop these days pretty much does)
* must have a touchpad
* is any color BUT white

i was searching around i found the fujitsu s2110 here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834110166) .

so, how good is the turion 64? i haven't read much about this processor other than that it is basically a mobile athlon 64 with better power usage. i have a full copy of windows xp x64 edition that i want to install and run, i assume it will work on a turion-based laptop.

what do you think of that laptop? what do you suggest for what i'm looking for?

thanks in advance

Why does it need to be 64-bit?

hmm, i don't have any good reason why it has to be 64-bit...other then that i want a 64-bit computer.

Hmm. Why do you want a 64-bit computer?

The only reason I'm asking is because using a Centrino opens up a lot more options for you. Are you using any 64-bit apps? Or are you looking for 32 more bits of (misplaced) bragging rights?

mainly i want to mess around with windows 64 bit edition. how much more battery life would i notice with a pentium M as opposed to an amd?

They'd be about the same. I'm really suggesting a Centrino laptop because they're a lot easier to find than Turions.

The Centrinos I've messed with have been pretty spectacular. I'm impressed - they're not a slouch by any means, as evidenced by some people going to great lengths to use them in their desktops.

what do you think of that laptop? It looks great, but it may not live up to your hopes for 4hour battery life.

If you do go with a Turion processor laptop, make sure it is one of the MT models, not ML. The MTs are in the 25 watt range, MLs in the 35 what range.

i was at fry's last night (long lines of people waiting for the xb360, anyways) and i used both a pentium M and turion (ml-32 i think?) laptop... the turion felt much more responsive then the pentium did, i was really impressed with it.

the fujitsu i was looking at is mt-28, they had pretty much the same one at fry's last night except it had a pentium M instead of the turion. the size, weight, and screen were all pluses (screen is nowhere at bright as a vaio though)

thanks.
