I just udated the firmware on my Linksys 4port router, and; will the firmware stay at this version if the router is unplugged for an extended period of time? Well?

I am in the position of explaining how to do this to my brother who is on the other side of the country. Could you tell me what is the latest version and wether or not it was hard. This would help a great deal. I haven't researched it at all I just saw the thread and it reminded me. I am sure the info would be usefull to more than just me. And to answer your question I don't believe that It will lost or changed if you unplug it. It is a firmware upgrade. Thank you in advance.

The newest version is 1.40.1 (at least it is for my model; the BEFSR41). Just head over to this page (http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp) where you can select your particular model. And after you download it, its as simple as unzipping the files, reading the readme (which is less than 50 words! and walks you right throught it) and then running the application you d/led. Took me about 3 min from the time i got to linksys' site. No restarting of computers/router is nessicary, and for me, it even kept my settings (even though it warned me that i'd lose 'em), just ask if you need to know more. ;)

Unless theres somethin really goofy about it your router should have no problem keeping the new firmware without power, it should be written to a EEPROM that keeps stuff in it even when the router is off, its basically the same as your computer BIOS which doesnt change when it doesnt have power to it
