View Full Version : VCore
I have an 866Mhz Intel PIII (Slot 1) presently doing 975Mhz 150Mhz bus (the board can do 155Mhz bus) and I up the VCore to 2.5% to 1.71v. My board is SY-6BA+100.
How can the VCore affect the perfomance of the processor so I can hit the 1Gig mark or what else can I do to improve performance and processing power?
Increasing the core voltage can in some instances enable the cpu to operate reliably at faster speeds, but care must be taken not to damage the cpu. When you increase the voltage the cpu generates more heat. You need to make sure your cpu is cooled well enough to compensate for the extra heat. You can also increase the voltage to a level that damages the processor outright. In some cases extra voltage can decrease stability. I won't go into specifics, but higher voltage can create a "dirty" signal that the will confuse the transistors. If you don't feel comfortable increasing the voltage then don't do it.
Can your system boot into WIN with the fsb set to155 ?

Hi Bhawns, welcome to the Forum,
please, what's about your chip temps @full load (100% load)?
I suggest to use MotherBoardMonitor to check the system temps, that you can found at http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ and remember that never your chip must go above 45 degree C.
I hope it helps you ;)
(1) No it doesn`t boot in Win @ 155 but does @ 150, no problems.
(2) I do use the system monitor and when running Quake 2 it can hit 45*C without any problems.
(3) I removed the single fan it came with and is useing two fans on the heat sink, I think that has it much cooler than before.
(?) That little paddding between the CPU and the heat sink if you were to remove it and let the CPU sit directlly on the heat sink what do you think would the effect in terms of cooling?

i definately think you should invest in better cooling, if you scrape the stuff off the bottom (you really should) YOU NEED TO GET THERMAL PASTE to replace it you can get this at radio shack or get Artic Silver II online.......a new cooler other than the stock intel will also help a lot....
Funny Guy speaks the truth. Never set the heatsink directly onto the CPU core without thermal paste. That thermal pad or tape you currently have on the heatsink is pure crap. Clean it off and invest in some good thermal paste at the very least.
