Okay I so I am running Debian Linux on my Laptop. And so I logged in as root to install the /bin files

The installation went great, but and I can open real player and it works just fine. But when I log in as my user, james, I click the real player icon under the applications menu, and nothing happens.

So I tired installing it witht eh su command in terminal through my james account but no luck. I also tried not as route.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a permission issue. What are the permissions assigned to the realplayer executable?

I can't write to it but I can read it and execute it.

Try to start the app from the command line instead of the menu. You might get a more useful error message.

No Problem; I decided that users are stupid I always log in as root, its to annoying to not able to do anything.

Users generally are stupid, using a user account isn't.
