you need a line out convertor

of if your cd player has rca aux input in back you could get a mini plug to rca convertor cable

i hate the FM modulators, the sound like poop, in some cases i had to wire them to the back of the deck to get a good signal :-S. if you are stuck getting one because you have a stock deck w/o inputs then go with something like this..
http://www.uscaraudio.com/cgi-bin/usstore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=FM1001
it'll actually feed the auto into your radio instead of putting it out as radio freq for it to lose power and gain static. you'll have to leech some 12v off something like ur deck, to power it up, so u might as well stick it behind the deck if u have room and get some extension wires for the audio input. you'll have a clean install that way as well.

Is this a stock stereo in your car? If it isn't, what is the brand and model number.
You may be able to get a converter cable (best buy even sells them) or you may have to buy something else along with the converter cable (what I had to do with my Pioneer).

If it is a stock unit, 95% chance (assuming this car isn't a BMW or similar that is newer) you'll have to get a FM modulator and sacrafice some sound quality, which may not sound bad to your ear depending on how critical you are, like Korndog said.

What is the model of your car stereo?
As these guys said, your options are limited...

please use words.

fm transmitters (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?&product_uid=131984) have sucked in my experience as well.

if you want it to sound good, you'll need to figure out if your stereo has an aux input (we need to know the stereo. if its just the stock stereo, list the model of the car). if it doesn't, then you can look into an fm modulator (instead of being wireless and 'tramsitting' the fm signal, it needs to be installed and clamps directly into the antenna wire, so its a bit better), and aux input converter (many stock car stereos have a plug in the back that is used to hook up an optional cd changer (when you buy the car). companies make little circuits that let you use that plug as an aux input. one company is blitzsafe. check out http://www.logjamelectronics.com/ for more aux converters), or a new stereo that does have an aux input.

or, if your car is old enough and has a tape deck, just get a tape adapter. its cheap, easy, and much better than an fm transmitter (in my experience).

Or if you're looking at a new radio possibly anyways, you could get any of the bajillion models that play MP3 files off of a CD for not much extra. That's assuming that your MP3s are actually MP3s and not like ATRAC or something.
