Planning on getting an AMD XP 1800+. If i wanna make this chip scream would a sk-6 do the trick or is there something better? CAK 38?

If you really want to do some affordable mad OCing, you could go with a bong cooler. My whole setup will probably fall below US$160 and I've heard very good things about bongs.

If that's not for you, I've heard great things about the Glaciator II. I'd go with that if I didn't want a bong cooler. Also, I don't recommend a shim; just a careful installation.
Also, I recommend putting a rubber band around your fan as you install it to keep it from slipping out of your hands and onto your XP 1800.
Hope that helps.

cak is not really good compared to the sk6 or the alpha and swiftec, you should consider water cooling or the zen radiator if you want to overclock the latest chips

I still don't know about the Zen... Haven't seen any 'reputable' sites review it yet. By reputable, I mean ones that control very carefully the environment that HSFs are tested in and test them all the same way. Still not necessarily the performance you will receive from it, but it's easier to compare say, The Swiftech MC462 vs the Alpha PAL8045 if they were both tested by Overclockers.com... Supposedly the guy at Plycon sent his first couple of units to Kyle at [H]ardOCP and a couple of other review sites, dunno if O/C.com was on the list, but I hope so...
Anyway, it's a good old idea, nice to see someone finally did it (as far as I can tell from preliminary results) right...
Peace

Well, Joe just reviewed the Zen radiator... I trust his reviews and Zen is, well, not good.

Here (http://www.overclockers.com/articles472/), grabbed it from the frontpage.

Well shoot... I just linked directly to the forums at work and didn't even look at the frontpage today... I too trust this review, and it tells me that I should prolly not buy one... one confusing this is this quote, from the last paragraph before 'Conclusion' to the first paragraph of the 'Conclusion':

Performance on the Simulator shows the ZEN to be very competitive; although lacking motherboard tests, the ZEN should fall into the top ranks of performance heatsinks.

CONCLUSION
Based on the CPU Die Simulator, the ZEN comes in at the low end of current heatsink tests. Not having tested it on a motherboard, this is only an estimate

They totally contradict one another... So which is it??? Hehe... Based on chance of damage alone, I wouldn't get one. Also, what's up with the two different C/W ratings, .35 (not very good) on the first and then .24 "Est Heatsink C/W...

Can anyone clarify this for my tired brain???
hehe
Peace
John

As far as I can gather, it should fall in the top ranks, but it doesn't.
I just kinda ignored that part; I'm not getting one, so it's of less consequence to me than to most.

I sent off an email to the reviewer anyway, cuz I'm curious what he was thinking. I'll post back here when he emails me back.

He was quick to respond. Here's what he said;
As a heatsink technology, the ZEN does show some promise. However, until users can mount it safely on a motherboard, it's almost a moot point.

Assuming the C/W of 0.24 holds up, the ZEN is not as good as the SK6, Glaciator and Swiftech 462A.

Does that help??

Enjoy! :D :D :D
