Microsoft Confirms Windows XP Giveaway Is No Hoax
Auckland, New Zealand - Wednesday, October 24, 2001 - Microsoft New Zealand today confirmed that it will be giving away 500 copies of its new operating system, Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Upgrade, on October 25, the day the product is launched.
Microsoft New Zealand’s Windows Marketing Manager, Jay Templeton, said the phones have been running hot at Microsoft with people wanting to confirm whether or not the giveaways are genuine.
“We will be giving away 500 copies of Windows XP Professional Upgrade worth $599 each, at over 90 Noel Leeming (Big Bytes), Dick Smith and Harvey Norman retail stores across the country.”
Guess who got 3 of them :D

The local PC store is going to sell the xtras for me :p
