View Full Version : P3 1000E, can't get no love?
I am frustrated, the best I can get it too is 1120mhz at 1.80. Its not my components because I used to have a P3 733EB which ran just fine. I shouldn't even say that I can get 1120mhz, I can't play games at that speed.
Any Advice, it would be appreciated

Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes not !!!
Maybe it's your chip.
Try to contact "ebola" or "pecos" they have the same cpu as yours....maybe they can help you .

Hi eagles, welcome to the Forum,
Please, what about your chip temps @full load (100% load)?
you know, never it must go over 45 degree C, but less is better!
P.S. the Gorb aren't good for the OC thing, consider to replace it with a Thermalright SK6 or a Millenium Glaciator and not with the basic heat tape but with a thin layer of thermal paste on the Cpu Core ;)
Hey Eagles -
Like The Doors (Peace Frog rocks, BTW) said, what're your load temps like? Looks like you should be using a slocket too (since your previous processor was an 'EB'), what type are you using? Some have voltage adjustments on them that may override what the mobo has.
I also agree that you should drop that orb. It obviously isn't working well if you have to stick extra fans on it.
My 1000E (SL5QV) was fabbed in Malaysia (if me remembers correctly). Could just be an obstinate beyotch of a chip too.
Keep us in the know on what happens!

Eagles,
As The Doors has said, check the CPU temperature. With such high clock multiplier at overclocked level is very intensive for the CPU. High multiplier, high voltage, and Overclock will raise the temperature at much greater rate.
Your first step: Check CPU temperature. Check it with your current G-Orb first. and if the temp reports very high, try a better(I mean a real good one) HSF if you have any.
Try taking the both sides of your computer case and lower your room temperature. Add extra fans like a couple of case fans and blow toward the CPU with HSF area.
Are you certain that the appropriate setting is doen in the BIOS? i.e.. AGP clock ratio, PCI clock ratio etc..
Maybe you didn't install your HSF on your CPU perfectly leveled? Tried ASII or other type of thermal compound? if not done so, try re-installing your HSF.
One other thing that bothers me is that your CPU's plant is Philliphines. I am using a 1000E chip made in Malaysia. I believe that Pecos and Ebola's are from malay also. (correct me if im wrong) It is possible you got a dud chip. But let us hope not.
The final word is that you check the temperature right now. If it's hot, purchase one of the HSF's in the top list.
Good luck
** EDIT ** Oops.. I didn't realize that Pecos had already posted his before me. I was bit late.. yeah take Pecos advice too!

You sure that's a cD0 chip?
What is the S-SPEC of that chip you have?
You might have a cC0 chip, you know...I believe there were 1 ghz/100 FSB cC0 chips made also.

I bet it is the heat.. The Golden Orb limits are 1.12 ghz and at that speed it wont do much. I suggest you use the Alpha P3125S a really kick arse cooler :D

for a little cheaper a Vos-32 should do the job well......hmmm the P3 had some kick-arse heatsinks, i miss the slot-1 format could you imagine an all copper Vos-32???
my chip is from malay. with a few hardware changes i probably could get 1333 easily but i dont really want to buy a new motherboard. i can run at 1290 and almost get through windows' first two loading screens at 1333. right now i'm happy at 1240. this computer is not gonna go any faster. next time i'm gonna just make a new machine.
oh yea at 1240 under full load my cpu temp is arroun 34-35 degrees C. I have an alpha pal 6035 with a 3500rpm fan on it. I have 5 80mm case fans.
Maybe you have the Slot 1 chip? That 1000e cCO doesn't overclock too well.
