I was trying to unlock my Duron 950, which is (was) running on an Asus A7V133 mainboard. I tried to connect the bridges with a pencil and after doing so (carefully so that only the appropriate bridge was connected), it wouldn't post afterwards. On Tom's Hardware's how-to, he said if this happened, just erase the previous marks and it would be fine. I did so, and it won't post at ALL anymore. I tried mulitiple times to remove the marks, and even though they are completely gone (from what I can tell), it still won't post. Any suggestions? I'm posting this from a friend's computer. If I've fried the Duron, I'm pretty much screwed because I can't very easily get a new processor :(

Use rubbing alcohol to make sure the chip is completly clean. also if you have this option available test it in another motherboard. www.pricewatch.com has the durron 750 listed on a site for $27 + ~$10 shipping right now so it should not be too expensive for you to replace it.

Well, I tried rubbing alcohol, and it still doesn't seem to work :(
I'm going to bring it over to a friends house to see how it works on his PC, but other than that, I can't think of anything else to do if it doesnt' work! I live in Canada, so the prices are not quite as low as they are in the states. A Duron 750 is $82 CDN, so that's quite a setback for me considering I don't currently have a job and already owe some people money.
Any more suggestions? Thanks to the people who have offered help so far.

You can contact AMD. they will do a ONE TIME ONLY replacement of oem cpu's. call them up, all you have to pay for is shipping.

is it???
i cant believe that?
its quite simple why not: amd cuts the bridges to make sure you dont OC it ... so if you tell them i tried unlocking it ... but i fried it while doing it
im sure they are going to say ... you messed with the chip we arent going to replace it

Well I suppose it could be possible as long as you didn't say whether or not you caused the problem by trying to unlock the multiplier. I'd like some confirmation about this though before I email AMD and ask stupid questions about it. I've never heard of this deal before, so if anyone could provide some more details, it would be greatly appreciated.

yes, please explain the whole deal....free case stickers is one thing, but replacing a processor is another.

i believe it is called RMA'ing
basically u send back your faulty chips to AMD
so they can find out what made it screw up and try and
find ways to fix them
ive never done it
but i believe it is done often
