what is a good waterblock? i was looking at the case etc poly block or the be cooling waterblock. are they pretty much the same? is there one out there that is better? (under $40 preferably). thanx again.
I ordered myself a Swiftech MCW462 for my first Aquacooled system but I heard from other people on this forum that DD Maze2 is also good.
If you can wait there will be a new kid on the block, called "IceFloe" designed by OC-Watercool's Chip (the same guy who created silver poly-block and others, caseetc is basically
selling his products).
I asked Chip about "IceFloe" on ICQ, 'cause it's something that I've never heard before.
Here it's:
--------------------------------------------------
ME: What's IceFloe?
CHIP: IceFloe is the patented trade name of the material.
ME: So what's so special about it?
CHIP: I expect it to be able to keep a cpu within about 3c of ambient with a properly setup system.
It is a ceramic-like composite made from aluminum and a proprietary mix of other metals & substances that the manufacturer will not reveal. It is EXTREMELY hard and machinable only with special equipment and abrasives. You can't solder it or weld it.
--------------------------------------------------
Sounds really good, but we should wait and see. He told me that sent some samples to the guys @ procooling.com, so I guess there will be a IceFloe review soon.
Take care,
Al

If you're interested, these are the parts that I ordered:
BlackICE II radiator
Swifty WCW462
OCersHideout aluminum Reservoir w/ built-in submersible 110V 145GPH pump.
Eheim 110V 1048 inline pump as the secondary. (If one fails, the other will keep pumping)
DigiDoc 5
I'm going to install all these in Enermax 989AL-01 aluminum case w/ 431W PSU.

The DD Maze 2 block is the best out there right now.

well, the ddmaze2 is like $60. i kinda wanted under $40. the polyblock looks nice, and its fairly cheap, and i like the mounting method.
i can get block, fan (panaflo 120mm 35dba), and fan filter for $55. i'm getting a pump locally i think, a mag drive 250gph for like $30. then going to get radiator at scrap yard or get one new at auto parts store...

I do not remember the Danger Den blocks being over $40.

the maze1 is within my range, but the 2 is out of my range. between the be cooling, dangerden, and caseetc polyblock, i think im going with the polyblock. its pretty cheap, and i can get everything else i need at the same store, and save $$ on shipping.

for under 40 thet is a good one. but from what i hear (am planing mign) it would probably be better to find a way to scroung up 15 or 20 bucks:(

i am already scrounging :-)
$40 is really the most i want to spend on my block, plus i would prefer to get all my other accessories from the same place, and very few places have all that i need. (i hate buying little things for $5, and paying $5 to ship each one of them). my system will be a bit different, and hopefully make the block work a little harder. im planning a decent-sized radiator core, with some good airflow.
Dangerden Maze.. Really good prices... as well as good performance :D

yeah, the more i have been thinking about it, i think i will go with the dangerden block. probably the maze2, because of the mounting... i dont like lug mounting, or these home-made contraptions. it costs a little more than i wanted, but will be for the better in the long run.

good choice, and most of the 5$ pieces you can get at a hardware store for 2 gucks and no shiping.
the Becolling block is pretty good. and its only $30

yeah, ive heard that. but, i looked into it, and its $29 just for block, and hardware to mount is at least $10... so you are almost at price of the maze2. its not as good as the maze2, and for the extra money, i would rather get it. plus i have heard that lately becooling has gotten kinda shotty as far as craftsmanship...
i just got the block and i didn't order the mounting sofware, i just made my own. if you wanna know how let me know

actually, i probably could make my own, but i want a really good mounting. i was thinking about the plexiglass plate, with holes for the mobo.... BUT, that would cost at least $10 to do... (plexi isnt cheap). i could go the $0.99 route, but i really dont want to. i think ill just fork over the $42 for the maze2. it sounds like the best out there, and i have a problem with getting the best there is.
