View Full Version : Decisions about cards
Had a x800gto unlocked. Returned it since I have an SLI board. Can't decide on this card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133159 or the 7800 gt ..The price difference is only $70.00. The 6800 GS is clocked at 470 and 1100mhz...

I'd go with the GS. In fact I just did! UPS will deliver my GS on Friday. Its an XFX 6800GS. I'm not a big PNY fan, especially after the 6800LE fiasco, where people had caps drop off their Black Friday LE's. Note that the packaging was undamaged, so this couldn't be due to store mishandling.
Although eVGA's step up plan seems very attractive, I plan on stepping up by going SLI instead.
I'm getting this one: XFX 485/1100

Get 7800GT, of course. 6800GS is too slow by today's standards.

It depends on his budget. I'd rather get a GS for $215 and clock it past the Ultra. For those with tight budgets like me, the GS or the GTO present a very attractive case. :)

Id go with the GS as well. This is coming from a 6800Ultra SLI user. :attn:
the performance gap between the 6800gs and the 7800gt is pretty big.the 6800gs is better value for money, but unfortunately it just doesnt have enough grunt for my liking.

The 6800gs is looking good to me right now. I would go with that because it has a nice price and pretty good performance

True, the 6800GS is a good budget card, but he implied that he could definitely afford the 7800GT. If this is the case, the 7800 is money well spent.
