My Girlfriend has a laptop with windows XP pro on it. And when she turns it one the computer keeps giving her the blue screen of death and restarting. The computer gets to the point where it starts to load after the login screen. then fails. The Blue screen says something about the AR511.sys. I could be off on the exact file. But the computer will just sit there rebooting for hours untill for some reason it just works and loads up. I think it might have something to do with a currupt driver file for the Wireless card she has installed. But even taking it out doesn't help. :bang head I can't seem so solve the problem. ANyone have any ideas? We need to be able to get into windows to put all her important files on cd. so she can finish a lot of work she has on it. thanks a lot.
Sorry to hear about that. A little googling turns up that "ar511" might be some atheros wireless drivers, as you suspected.
If you need to burn those files off your gf's hard drive, you can boot a "Knoppix" cd and use the k3b burning program to access her hard drive. Basically, a Knoppix disc is linux on CD. It boots from cd, loads your computer, detects (most of) your hardware, and then brings up a windows-like desktop (called KDE). If you search the menus, there's a program called "k3b", which can be used to burn the files off her hard drive. Knoppix won't write to the laptop's hard drive, but it can read from it.
As for the rebooting, try to get a hold of some updated wireless drivers for the laptop, boot into safe mode, then uninstall the old drivers and install the new ones. Good luck!

The laptop PC may have bad caps. Bad caps can take a long time to charge, which is required for the PC to be stable. For more information about the bad cap issue, please go to the following web site:
