and wondering if those are any good. I havnt heard of Avertec before and this site (which has good ratings) claims to sell the most Avertec refurbrished products. To me that sounds like "Avertec stuff gets sent back alot then we buy take the refurbs and sell them for cheaper."

Personally, my g/f is looking for a laptop and either of those would be perfect. All she wants it for is school to play the sims (original). The lower cost the better of course.

They are a relatively new company, at least on the natioanal level. They have some nice prices, but I would truly urge someone to go out to office max or staples and test one out before you buy it, i just hated its keyboard(nothing beats IBM :) ).

It got a 5.00 in that thread, but it looks like the jury is still out on Averatec.

I sell these alot at my work (staples). From what customers have told me, they are really nice laptops and very reliable. In working @ staples 3 years now i have only seen 2 of them come back for problems/defects. One was a tablet PC were the screen stoped responding to the stylus pen, and the other wouldn't boot period. Not a bad ratio considering i personally have sold about 50 of them a year atleast.

ATM staples has a nice 12" (like the ones you linked) for about $850 brand new.

some avertec notebooks are rebranded asus models.
look at the model numbers and compare them to the ones on the asus website. :p

My bro-in-law has had one for a year now. He loves it, and it is so tiny.
They are durable machines!
