I want to set up two wireless routers in my house, one per floor. The way I planned to set it up was the router by the modem on the ground floor would do DHCP, then the one in the basement would be wired to the one on the ground floor and pass through IPs. A diagram is attached. However, its not working as planned, as anything attached to the 2nd router isn't able to connect to anything on the first or anything on the net. Help?

It should be working fine. That is how i have mine hooked up. except i do not have wirless on the 2nd router. Did you turn of DHCP on the 2nd one? I did not do that i left it alone. Did not change nothing on the 2nd one. That is the one i got my servers on.

Don't hook up the second router to the wan port from router 1, hook it to a LAN port. Make sure the second router is on the same ip network as the first. 192.168.1.xxx or whatever.

make sure DHCP is turned off on the second one, and you might want to seperate their channels, one on 1 and the other on 11. help reduce interference that way.

then put a cable between the routers' LAN ports, the numbered ones that normally hook to a computer. then the second router will basically act as a switch and an AP. also will want to change the second routers admin IP to something, preferrably out of the DHCP range so there is no chance of conflicts there.
