Hey im upgrdain soon and was wonderin how much of a performance increase i would see with an x1800xl over a standard x800pro. Also how well do they overclock and is it posible 2 hit XT speeds with stock coolin.

thanks

I went from x800pro to X1800XL and it's about a 100% increase in performance. You will not get XT clocks on the stock cooler. Every one I've seen who had aftermarket cooling reached the XT GPU speed of 625mhz and beyond. As far as memory, you can run 700mhz with nothing but a little more then default voltage. Anything more then 700mhz on the memory requires significant voltage increases.

With my stock XL, if I try to turn up the memory voltage just 5 MHZ with ATI's Overdrive, I get a blue screen and I need a reboot. I have the GPU core running around 560 with no problems though.

What would cause that blue screen????

My XL did 668/800+ on the stock cooling.

What kind of temps did you have? Where those clocks stable? Screenies?

First day testing my XL, before I figured out that the memory would go much farther than this. Temps we're in the high 50's as I recall.

Depending on what tool you use you can get different clocks with the memory.

I can do 625/750 and more with OC tool, benchmark results in 05 is 8710
Now with ATITool I do 625/650 currently, and I benchmark in 05: 9118

OC tool seems to do something with the memory to loosen it so it can run higher frequences but at a cost. Some reports of CCC doing the same, but I havn't played with that.

Still playing around with my setup but I'm sure its possible for me to hit higher on core and memory. With my setup I hit 60C loaded on the GPU.

There are not many results yet but you can see what kind of overclocks people are getting in my X1000 OC DB (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=424025)

Oh ya forgot went from a X800Pro to a X1800XL. Saw a decent preformance increase expecially in the higher resolutions where I can crank it up and I'd be getting the same better results then lower resolutions with the same settings.

I had a post with FEAR benches on it don't know where it is anymore but I'm sure there around somewhere.

I'm skeptical on the temps, but it depends on your ambient temperatures. 1.225 heated my card up pretty darn hot(well into 60s) with an aftermarket cooler.

68° F. A couple of guys have said they had higher load temps with either of the Zalmans.

When I run 2.45vgpu I get about 71c load, of course that is with a high case temps of about 40c, but nonetheless that's still warm. Word on the street is that the cards can handle temps of 88c max. I have a feeling the HS manufactureres are going to be releasing new coolers to combat the higher heat outputs.

BTW everyone see deathmans post about the new ATITool beta 10 release?
