I'm new so if this is in the wrong forum sorry
I password protected my friends comp through bios
set a bios password and a boot password now she said her roommate has been using her comp but password has not been given out or laying around now the only way i know of getting boot pass is by going into bios but that is protected the bios has not been wiped so i know thats not it
is there any other way to get into the system no details on how just can it be done without clearing bios yes no if yes is there a better way to protect

Firstly welcome to The Forum. Have done a little checking on the subject for you, and it appears that there are some generic passwords that work with various BIOS's.
Sorry that the following link is a little hard to read, but it contains information about BIOS passwords:-http://habitantes.elsitio.com/digisign/biospasswdremoval.html (http://)
On the subject of further protection, I am a little stumped. Do any other members have an idea on this?
i'm just wondering about some of the obvious things..
if your friend boots the comp, then leaves/logs off..it'd be possible for the roomate to use the comp..
What OS is she running?
also...what's the boot order (hd first?)..I''ve encountered plenty of passwords that were useless because of the 'boot from floppy first'
last, *sorry if this sounds like an insult to your intelligence, its' not meant to be*:
Is the password something that could be guessed?

Thanks for the reply interesting link
cool looking cat The OS is 98SE AMI bios ver. ? almost newest
passwords would never be guessed by anyone but it might be like what is in the link second password is asked before floppy check right after mem test so I'm just going to change passes and see what happens she lives on campus 40 miles away so I though I'd check here first to see if there might be away. thanks all
im sure u know that sometimes passwords are easly cracked simply by guesses developed with knowledge of the person that created the password, or by finding recorded pass info. or observing logon
