Hello,
I have been looking for ways to lower my time with work units. Currently on my new 1.4 tbird machine its taking me ~24 hours to complete a work unit. This is with nothing else running over night. I have gone to some of the links for the Seti driver and such but I dont understand why it takes me that long to process a unit..

Anyone have any idead on how to lower that significantly? i run win2k pro with a 1.4 tbird and 512 ddr

Go here (http://www.ocsetiteam.com/Instr1.htm) to get instructions to install the command line client with seti spy and driver. If you want to continue to use the screen saver the right click your desktop..... select properties...... screen saver tab..... setting... make sure it is set to goto blank screen after 0 minutes. That is your problem right now. The screensaver uses a lot of cycles to display the graphs. When it goes to blank screen it stops processing the images. Speeds things up.

First of all, Welcome CGR.

With a 1.4, you should be getting WU times of about 4-5hrs for an average angle WU (approx .4xx). Are you running the CLC instead of the ScreenSaver version?

Here's a few tips:

Make sure that your hardware configs are correct and optimized - i.e. memory timings optimized, fsb, etc.

Run the command line client instead of the GUI.
If Microsoft Office is installed - disable Fast Find.
If anti-virus is running, exclude the seti folder.

100% on that, after I did my reinstall I forgot to change that setting and my first wu took 16 hours to do 75%. Once I changed the setting the last 25% took about 2 hours. My wu time is now back to the 8 hour range.

Thank you for the info, have Seti driver and seti spy working now, so we will see how long a unit takes now.

Thanks

Heya,
My Seti name is SARhAR.
Im down to >6hr/WU at 1.4mhz. Ill try overclocking it this weekend to see how much I can lower that with still maintaining good WU`s.

If you overclock - overclock via the fsb settings. You will get better WU times by upping the fsb than with raising the multiplier.
Good luck.

You sure you mean 1.4Mhz??? Those are some great times for such a slow machine!

Couldn't resist..... Yet another person to pass me eventually in the ranks.... :D

I did the same thing, (SetiSpy/Driver) and it shaved off 40m to 1 hour off my best time. My first wu with this setup went 4:18.
Sure beats my 15 hour first wu!

That seems high, I get that with a tbird 800 @ 1000. Go here (http://www.ocsetiteam.com/links.htm) and check out the links to the tips page. You should be around 4 hours a WU.

Hmmm I looked through all the speed tweaks but they are mostly for 98 not 2k.
Anyone know a site with some 2k tweaks?
Also anyone know a good place to find bios tweaks for the Iwill KA266-r board?

Thanks
