I have some generic thermal grease i picked up from compusa. I applied it right (i'm guessing). 40C or so idle. if i get AS2 will the temp drop be very dramatic, or no? If this it drops it significantly, i will probably give it a shot. is it only available online? what would be the easiest way to remove the old grease?? thanx!!!

yes, AS 2 is DEFINATELY worth it and dropped my temps 3-4 C....you can get it at www.hardcorecooling.com its like $6 or $7 but its worth it, and you can get old stuff off with isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, nailpolish remover, but just make sure you dont scratch your HSF when taking it off or putting AS2 on......later

so, AS2 is a thermal compound comprised mainly of silver. could i use an industrial type silver compound? (can get it at work for free)

Just make sure it's not corrosive and doesn't touch any of the bridges on the chip.

Looks like I've lost my AS2 tube :( I can't check the percentage of silver in it, but it's 99% or close.

Make sure that the industrial compound isn't gluey (is that a word?) either, unless you want to have a permanent heatsink :P
