View Full Version : Password software
Hi all I am looking for software that will allow me to password protect files and folders.Anyone know of a program that will allow me to do this. And works on Win2000 pro....
Thanks in advance
Norton had a program similar to what you're looking for. Can't remember what it was called or if it included all the functions you're looking for. It was very simple but used a very high encryption formula.
Seems like it was only for compression though. If I remember I'll let you know.
Think it was called Norton's Secret Stuff.
Best off using Win2K with NTFS and using priviledges to protect your data.

If you have you drive formated using NTFs it has security features built in to protect folders and files. If you right click on the folder/file and there is the security tab.
*edit* Jon you got there just before me
Well I am on the fat 32 file system,,I installed this way as a concern for the many games i play lol.
So i am at fat 32 no security option,,And software that will help me out
Convert it to NTFS.
Go to Start-->Run-->type COMMAND and then enter--> type in CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS at the command line, follow instructions and reboot.
No loss of data or anything. Takes 5-15 minutes depending on drive size. You will then be able to set priviledges.
i use and love PGP, i just create a vir partion and at each boot up i just mount it with a pass and then i work out of it and drag into it when i want, i set my caches to it and have no prob, it is pretty much unbreakable, fast works entirely in background, if u chose to not mount it a start up no dif, i even use it to save self decripting files to cd, comes with secure wiping, unused space overwriting and other goodies u can instal or not
Turd,
I just started to play with pgp. Are there any sites you would recomend to learn about the more complicated uses.
