Here's a few ways
1)Ask for permission
2)Ask for permission ;)
3) Run it as a service so it doesn't bother anybody using the system and so that they can't shut it off accidentally. This is very easy to do with win98/me and can also be done with win2k. Have not tried hiding it in Linux yet, but I would assume that the school boxes are running some sort of windows.

How do you run programs as a service?
That depends on the OS you're running. win2k or win 98/me. The process is different for each. As for win XP It would be closer to 2000/NT than 98 I think. I don't have XP on anything but I believe the core for all versions is the NT/2000 kernel.
