This **** is REALLY ****ing me off...

Today, I started playing Silk Road Online. Seems awesome so far..BAM, Artifacts up the wazoo!

So I shut down, and restart the game. Same thing. "Hmm" I think to myself. I installt he latest videocard drivers, and the sytem hangs approximately six times after rebooting. SAfemode doesn't work. The "Windows XP is starting [XXXX000] BAR at startup shows artifacts too. I finally get in, and bam, it's still not working. I try using ATiTool to underclock the videocard...still artifacts. It's not hot at all.

I can't swap it out either, it's a laptop.

Specs:
Gateway 7422GX
Amd Athlon 64 3400+ Mobile
Ati Mobile 9650 Graphics
80 gig HDD
1 Gig memory.

I rolled back my install to a week ago, same ****. I have NO idea where to go from here. I can go to bbuy and have them fix it [by fix it I mean send it out to the manufacturer and WAIT] but that will take WEEKS to MONTHS and this is my only system as of right now that I can game on.

Anyone got ANY ideas?

Thanks,

Excelsior

He said he could take it in for repairs (so I assume he has warranty), but he'd rather not as he would be left without a system for who knows how long.
I really don't think you have a choice, though. It definately sounds like the gfx is borked and there is no way to fix it other than replace it.
I know someone with a 9700 Mobility for sale for like $38 shipped. You any good at opening up a lappy?

Unfortunately for you failures are possible at any stage of a products life. Mabey a tiny imperfection in the lens or wafer has now produced a failure in the gpu die.
It sounds like things have gone wrong while you were not ocing the system and unless you have unlocked extra pipes it sounds faulty, which leaves you with a dilemma. Your best hope would be to go (or to get some one else prettier too) in to the store and be ultra friendly and try to arrange a swap out. Since you have no other pc other than what has developed the artefacts, if they are unable to provide an exact replacement try to ask if they have any returned similar units that are out of packaging or just returned.
Just act totally on their mercy if they cant/wont help by giving you a temporary replacement while its being fixed then you are with out a paddle.
The other hope would be to try and arrange with the manufacturer for a (nether google or word could help me with this one still learning this whole spelling thing) corria ?? caryer? Curryer? "Courier "… One of those people who have a van/ bike/ helicopter to collect the old one and give you a replacement when you give them yours. I will only by things like monitors from people with a same day swap out policy.

One other less likely possibility is that some how a driver is corrupt completely nuke anything with radeon associated with it in safe mode reboot make sure there is no radeon stuff then install the drivers again, make sure the check sum on the file is correct if you can find it if that’s no good

if the gpu is not hard fixed and you are interested in theat 9700 thats an idea but it will terminate the worrenty

Bleh, thanks for the advice.

I was imagining this was the case... I wa sjust hoping maybe there was a setting or something small I might have neglected. Oh well. Guess I'll have to miss the upcoming LAN and be out of my computer for a few months :|
