This may seem a little silly question but i want to know exactly how temperature effects the CPU and the rest of your computer. What kind of temperature is bad? Is temperature so important when not overclocking? General opinions wanted!

General Rules:

Low Temps = Good, components operate normally
High Temps = Bad, components lock up and perform 'strangely'

Temps always matter, they just matter more when overclocking or trying to overclock.

If you are trying to make something run faster than it was meant to (although isn't the speed that it is at just before it dies REALLY the speed it was meant for ???)...Anyway, like I was saying if you are pushing the limits, higher temps affect components even more.

Temperature is very important ... With lots of heat your processor will most likely start doing weird things.. locking up... and it'll lock up other things with it...

Temps also shorten the life of computer components, but that's not really an issue anymore since a microprocessor is made to last 10 years, but is virtually obsolete in 3 years. Your main concern is the lockups and bluescreens you can have when your processor is running at too high a temp.

The more heat, the faster the electromigration, ie. death of your chip.
