Picked up a 600x thinkpad with a trackball problem, windows wasnt seeing it, and in the bios the litte birdy would just fly around, i have then switched the keyboard/ trackpoint, and in the bios, the pointer works great, but its still not being seen in windows after format- anyone have any ideas ? thanks

Sorry if this seems obvious, but have you installed the IBM trackpoint drivers?
Drivers are here:

thing is the trackpoint shouldn't need drivers and they dont show up as an unkown items, i've installed XP on older systems and newer systems (including many 600's)and the trackpoint picked up with no problems

"when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"
Give the drivers a go; they may not solve the problem, but it's certainly worth a try...
Hi,
Be sure you have your trackpoint enabled through the thinkpad configuration utility, (graphic display utility).... or it won't work. (alternatively you can use the PS2 TPOINT command to do this)

boom that was it -- the first thing i tried were the drivers --
i had to manually hex edit something in the bios to reenable the trackpoint , apparently the previous owner the trackpoint died, and these laptops dont boot past the post if the trackpoint error is there unless the trackpoint is disabled all together, so some tech probably did that so he could get into windows and told him to just suck it up and use an external mouse - problem solved
