Any comparisions been done on this new memorys yet?
Prices are about equal, the redlines claim 3-3-2-8
while ocz has 3-4-3-8
Both allow extreme voltage, both have newly designed heatsinks (though the ocz's is really cool looking)
I'm looking to combine this with a dfi nf4 sli board and a dual core amd 170 opty.
The NEW OCZ

Well not really duonger, i kinda would like to have the tightest timings possible at the starting speed of 500...normally would allow you to overclock higher. I really like the redline series, but just wanted to know if anyone had done any comparisions yet of the 2 newest 2gig sets.'
and ballistix arent really ones i have looked at, the looked amazing coming out and a friend of mine bought 4 sticks of 512 to be used in 2 different computers. For several months everything was fine, overclocked wonderful. For the last month or so now, he has had the weirdest problems with the sticks, even switching pairs between 2 computers, and mixing and matching the pairs. Sometimes perfect sometimes mem errors.
I own 2x512 pc3200 ocz plat rev 2 right now, the first pair i rma'd for not mem-testing at stock, recieved a replacement set and love them. So OCZ I like, but these redlines have intriqued me a lot. I know with some of the bios on the DFI nf4 boards people are having problems with voltages, but some bios have fixed that.

This is a good question. I too am building a rig similar to this, and the Crucial ram is such a turn off because of how crappy they get over time. THe mushkin is obviously better spec-wise, but I'm not sure how they OC. It seems like you're paying for the heatspreader with the OCZ ram.

I have the Mushkin on the way to me. I'll post my results.

My vote is for the Mushkin, they've treated me great.
I have never had a bad stick of RAM from Mushkin. Whenever I want top shelf RAM, Mushkin is what I get.

weird, I was able to get my Mushkin up to 285 without any issues and with only changing the RAS Precharge. I didn't try for higher though.

Perhaps your luck, custom90gt, is because of th Opteron's better memory controller.
I'm going to be using these sticks in an Asus P4C800-E on an Intel 878 chipset. Should be interesting. I am hoping that these sticks will work great in my new rig I am planning to build in January/February. It will be Opteron 175 based. Perhaps Asus mobo, or DFI. Haven't decided on mobo yet, but Opty 175 definitely.

My vote also goes to OCZ. I haven't bought a lot of RAM, but OCZ's CSRs have treated me very well.
/personal anecdote
I bought some of the OCZ VX Gold PC4000 for my DFI SLI-DR. Apparently, the 4V VDimm jumper on the board causes the memory to fail - (The VX line has been discontinued). So now that I'm RMA'ing the stuff, OCZ is sending out some PC4800 Platinum Elite Edition to replace it. :woot:

After reading the xtremesystemz forums, I'm gonna have to go with the Mushkin RAM. These things are amazing according to the screenshots over at xtremesystemz.

I ran them at the same speeds on an E6 venice and at 270 on an E3 venice, so I dont think thats quite it.

I couldn't get past 260 with my sticks until I tried charlie @ XS forums stable settings. Then I was able to hit 2.5-3-2-8 @ 250 htt and 287htt @ 3-3-3-8.

Ok, got my Mushkin 2Gig Extreme Performance in my system. I can do 264Mhz FSB at 3-4-4-8 on the rig listed in my sig below. Not much of an overclock, but definitely impressive for a 2Gig kit.
I do have some stability problems though with Battlefield 2 Special Forces. Still trying to figure out if its the memory or if it has something to do with heat in my case. These sticks get quite warm. I have a 120mm case fan blowing on them now to see if that helps. I might also buy some of those stick-on heatsink thingies to improve cooling.
Interestingly, when these arrived it was about 35degrees F outside. When I first put them into the machine they were still cool to the touch. I booted up at 275 FSB and started doing some benchmarking. I was doing a memory write benchmark in Everest when it locked up. I couldn't get it to boot at that fast of a speed again. This is leading me to believe that these sticks need active cooling.
Previously, I was running PC4400 OCZ at 275 MHz 24-7 completely stable, but of course only 2X512Mb. With 2X1Gig I can certainly expect to see slower speeds, so I am not dissappointed since these are sold as 250Mz sticks. Just luck of the draw I suppose. I just wish I had some of those magic sticks that did so well at product launch that I've read about.
I think I'll play with Charlie's timings next and report back my results.

what voltage are you running through them? Mine aren't even very warm to the touch at 2.8v. Maybe some memory burn in would be benificial to them?

2.8V.
How do you burn in memory?

2.8V.
How do you burn in memory?
maybe 2.9v would do the trick to get it all stable. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=123908 should tell you how to burn in the memory/what program to use.
Maybe try running 3-4-4-10 and seeing if you can hit the 275mhz fsb.

ya get ocz
the redlines take a crap on the OCZ
redlines use infineon chips and ocz uses samsung uccc
my friends 2gb set of redlines does 3-3-2-8 @ 280 FSB with only 2.6v
the redines are by far the most amazing 2x1gb set of memory ive ever seen

These aren't redlines though. They're the Extreme Performance once that come with the blue heat spreaders.
Yeah, I've read today about burning in the memory. I"m not sure that I buy into the whole thing. I ran test 5 of Memtest 86+ for about half a day and didn't see any improvement really.
I'm now running slightly tighter timings, 3-4-3-6 at 266 MHz FSB. I've looked into the OCZ DDR booster, but I think that using it might void my warantee because these aren't rated for 3.3V like some of the HV memory is. Maybe once I no longer care about warranty I'll give it a try, but right now I'm very happy with the improvement of my Battlefield 2 special forces with this 2 Gig kit. The Iron Gator map with the aircraft carier is the most challenging map in the whole game, and I used to sputter along at 30 FPS, but with this new memory I now enjoy a nice 50-60 FPS, depending on how many other players are around me. It's an amazing improvement. Battlefield really loves 2 Gigs of memory!

Well i went ahead with the mushkin, I have to say im extremly impressed with the customer service, I had troube with the website ordering (btw the website ordering and order tracking REALLY SUCKS) and talking to Christy who would be hand-testing my chips the next day. Aftter some problems with my credit card, I received them friday.Popped them into a friends maching (abit an8, amd 3800+) to test them out, and since he has continued to have many problems with 4x512 of Crucial Ballstix. Everything ran smooth for the 15 minutes we looked at them.
Not they sit in the air bag again, awaiting my dfi expert and amd opteron 170....grr, i have never had some much trouble with credit card orders!! but partly my own fault. HOPEFULLY, i will have everything by next week, including my ocz powerstream 520 and sapphite x1800xt!!!
Looking forward to this build, this should be one really good computer.
