View Full Version : No OC on XP1800
I cannot get not one thats right 1 mhz higher than 133 on FSB on my XP1800.I'm running it on a 8KHA+ with 256mg of Corsair pc2400.I am so frustrated and upset I have waited for a long time and have been saving my money to get some of the new tech when it was new for once and I got rooked!I know that it is only rated to run at 1.53 but come on which one of you would not be totally ****ed if you spent this kind of money and couldn't even get one stinkin mhz over 133.I jumped the gun going and getting all the supplies I needed to do the mult. trick.Oh well more money for nothing.I am so much happier with my 1.4 or even my 1.0 for that matter.AMD is really skating on thin ice with me.By the way this is at 1.85v
I don't think you are done. You have a problem. I don't think it is that the chip can't handle a tiny overclock something else must be the problem. did you load the defaults in teh bios? I would do this and lower the voltage. What are your temps like? give a couple of things you did and what happens when you try to overclock it.
take out all your cards keep the video duh! try again to overclock and don't give up. make sure the memory settings are low you using one or two sticks of ddr?
Have you tried your 1.4 in the 8KHA+?
I think el is right there is probably something holding your oc back not the cpu.
Have a look thru this board maybe you can find a similar problem and solution.

Don't give up!
I can't really suggest any fixes besides the above, but check this out: I was slowly trying to ramp my xp 1800 up, but the highest I could get was 1675.....and every couple of days it would start crashing and only run at default. after the fourth or fifth evining of trying to figure out what I did wrong- and not finding anything (note that I even unlocked the thing to get stable!) I said screw it! I had not been able to get more than 136 out of the fsb, but I set it at 150 and booted anyway.
Voila!
I have been running at 1725mhz for almost two weeks now, 100% stable, cpu temp of 42c in a mini tower that is HOT- case temp 41c!
Keep at it, I bet she'll go.
I guess tomorrow I will plug in one of my other cpu's and see what they will do in the 8KHA as I know they all kick butt in the Abit and in my Asus.I hope it's not the chip, which I agree I t doesn't seem right not being able to achieve even the tiniest OC.Thanks for the replies I'll keep ya posted.

Bubba,
I don't know if this is related to your problem but let me share my experience with overclocking a XP1800+ on a 8KHA+.
Time and time again I would set the fsb up in the bios and reboot.
At boot up, the proper speed would be displayed i.e 11.5 X 150 = 1725 but when all was done and W2K was up and running, the speed had revereted to 'stock' 11.5 X 133 (1533). I tried everything I could imagine and nothing worked. Flashed to new bios, reverted back to original, re-flashed etc.
Finally ( and I don't know why I didn't try this earlier!) I used the jumper to clear the CMOS and started over.
BINGO! Now everything is as it should be. Set FSB to 150, W2K sees it as 150!. I haven't had to do this with other boards.
Hope this helps.
rogerdugans you cannot have a cpu temp of 1C above ambient. That with give your heat sink a C/w of 0.0somthing.
He could be water cooled.

First: I should have said that I do not trust the temp readings entirely, but relative to each other the can show improvement or worsening of a given cooling scheme. And they don't seem to be far from what my little indoor/outdoor thermometer reads.
Also, case temp and ambient are two different things, and my cpu doesn't get air from inside the case: there is a duct with an 80mm fan supplying room air to the cpu, and a separate case intake.
Ambient temp is more like 22c, and that is the air to cpu!
