Here (http://www.apples.f2s.com/screen.php3) are some Linux desktop shots. They have crazy backgrounds but the desktop is Linux..not sure which version. I played around w/ Mandrake 8 for a while but I got lazy and work became too busy to dedicate the time to learning a new OS..for now.

The nice thing about Linux is that it's very customizable, especially the look of it. Once themes.org gets some themes, I'll have some fun.

It's pretty easy for me to describe what Linux looks like to me. Think DOS with colors. :)

Or a desktop that can look however you want it too.

You could even make everything look just like it would in Windows if you want. :D

i've never used linux or even saw what it looks like before. i might try it out some time when i have extra time. looks cool but i woud hate not being able to run games on it. and dual booting seems like a waste of time for me....

I have been thinking about that too... but what about drivers? most of my hardware deosnt have linux drivers available. Are you just supposed to use default linux drivers?

This is not strictly true, Litestep loads from the system.ini file on Win 9x systems and modifies the line shell=Explorer.exe to read shell=Litestep path\litestep.exe so editing this in DOS and returning the line back to normal returns you to the Windows desktop.
The situation can also be resolved in NT based systems although a little more time consuming
