I have an x-fi xtreme music with the 'flex-jack' or whatever that can be used as a digital out. Also have a panasonic reciever that has coaxial digital input (i believe, it's at home and i can't remember the model number to look it up)... what kind of cables do I need and what settings do I need to change on the x-fi for this to work? I'm just gonna use a 2.0 set of sony bookshelves, but would like digital music playback through them, and use it to watch movies (reciever has dolby digital decoding, I'm almost positive). I'm also gonna use the reciever as a heaphone amp. Do regular mini to RCA cables do the job? I thought they were analog....?

I hope it's not that 'toslink' or whatever on the reciever... isn't that the spdif? Then I would have bought the x-fi in vain because the onboard has the spdif.

All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated! :D

its either gonna be a toslink or a simple RCA cable. spdif is a standard, not a type of connector or plug. whether it be toslink or RCA its still spdif.

So, will a simple cable with a mini jack on one end and RCA plugs on the other end be able to send a digital signal?

You can use the onboard if you want. Just find a 75ohm coax cable with RCA jacks on each end to plug between the motherboard and the receiver.

If you want to use the X-Fi you'll need a little adapter as well. See 2nd post here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=427256
