I decided that I needed to upgrade my 128 meg of RAM in my main system, so I thought I'd take some of the RAM out of my other systems to see how 256 meg would perform in my system. Well, I took the pc133 out of the gateway system that I got as a hand me down. It really ****** the system up, but I did enough testing that I figured the $10-20 upgrade will be worth it till I get DDR.
The good part:
Since I had the pc133 out of the Gateway, I thought I'd try the PC100 I had in an old Cel400 sys I had laying around collecting dust... IT WORKED!!!!! I couldn't believe it!
The REALLY good part:
I abruptly took the pc100 out of the gateway and poped it into my a7v133... 100mhz-110-133 cas3-133 cas2_______CRASH!
Doh!
Oh well... let's see how high she'll go at CAS 3...
137-139-143!!!!! This is where I'm currently testing. I'm a half hour into P95 and still going. I'd try higher, but my other stick of pc133 doesn't like much over 145 anyway.
I'm so happy that if I have no problems I'm gonna just use this ram to keep me at 256 till I go DDR.
Not bad for an over 2 1/2 year old stick of generic PC100 RAM!!!
Moral: Even if you think it won't work... Try it!
Keep the language clean in here. Thanks.
