Ever since I installed the eathernet card my system boots sooooooo slow. And now the network log on popup comes on every time I startup. So does anybody know some ways I can speed up my boot, and is there a way to get rid of the network log on at startup: the comps are connected through NICs and a crossover cable.
Thanks for any help.

Its me again! lol
anyway, you right click on My Neighborhood or My Network Places, choose Properties, and where it says "Primary Network Logon" make sure you have "Windows Logon" chosen.
Slow boot: Make sure in your BIOS its not set to check for boot devices on the network.
:)
You can disable DHCP in the services. That's probably what's taking the longest. You'll need to set a static IP address for yourself, however.
In order to get rid of the network log on screen you have to set it to log on automatically for a certain user. You can do this under the Passwords(?) option in Control Panel if I'm not mistaken. Not at my PC at the moment so I can't remember. Look around in there and you should see what I'm talking about.

Jon, could you tell me a little more on how to disable DCHP, I don't know what you mean by disabling DCHP in services, what is services?
I have a static IP set but don't know how to disable DCHP.
Thanks

what version of windows do you have?
if it's windows 98 then you just go into network properties then select the correct tcp/ip protoool of your lan card then into properties and type in your static ip and gateway on one the pages...sorry i cant remember
if it's win2k then you go into network properties, again and find the correct connection, i don't know what it's called but it's something like that and then right click it and go into properties..look at the top to see if that's the lan card you want to choose settings for...if yes then choose tcp/ip and go into the properties of that...from there select choose use the following ip(again i m not sure as i m using chinese version of win2k) type in the ip, subnet mask and gateway and also type in your dns server
reply if you need more details on this
