I'll add mine....

I picked up the Jerker in Brooklyn a few weeks ago. I gotta say, I love it! Best 80.00 ever spent on a super study and fully functional desk! :D

I just picked up the 20" Dell 2007wfp S-IPS to go along with my 26" H-IPS beauty! :)

Oh, and 5.00 Ikea lights FTW! :D

Here's my main C2D rig.

http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/8828/rig1pl4.jpg

Yes, I do use all the USB cables I have plugged into the front panel :P

http://xs227.xs.to/xs227/08215/rig2224.jpg

The innards. Forgive the Care Bear look, I just never got around to buying LED fans of the same color, so I'm stuck with green, red and blue...

I'll go for an all-blue look though (seeing as this is an Intel rig), my AMD rig is AMD-Nvidia green :)

http://xs227.xs.to/xs227/08215/rig3627.jpg

I've decided that cable management is practically impossible in this case.

So I've moved everything to the bottom as best as I could, so that the RAM and CPU HSFs and Northbridge can breathe more easily.

Both 4in3 HDD modules have 12cm fans blowing inwards.

I will add a 3rd module along with a 12cm fan to increase positive pressure inside the case (noise is not my concern).

Just added a 2nd loop to cool my GPU only with XSPC "Bay-Res" Pump/Reservoir Combo. And Swiftech MCW30 Chipset Water-block to water-cooled the north bridge. Still looking for a suitable water block to cool the SB, it's bit tight cos of the SLI. Also need to cool the VReg/MOSFET, I think the Koolance MVR-40 will do the job. BTW, just switch my broadband to Comcast Cable Fiber Optic Blast (16 Mbps) from Verizon slow ass 3 Mbps.

NO NO NO NO!!! Don't let a Thermal Take WC system touch yours with a 10 foot pole .. They are awful and for the price you can get a much better custom setup .. Its a bit more work to setup but performance will be soooo much better ... So yeh, don't get that .. lol

LoL Yeh ... Actually I know close to nothing about Water Cooling .. However I once posted a thread asking if any of Thermal Takes gear was any good and that was the response I got .. The only watercooling kits that I know are any good are Swiftech's, like this one (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swh2edukit.html) (that's the kit I'm planning on getting) ..

As for your PSU .. You don't really need anything more powerful (your rig probably only uses around 350-400W) .. But maybe a better brand, more reliable one is in order ..

Ordering a few goodies real soon, pair of my black lights burned out. Could use a cleaning as well, but the mesh on the case is doing it's job against this dusty room ;)

And don't ask why my RAM is that way. :( Computer isn't stable on dual channel anymore, not even stable at 1T. Not sure if the RAM or mobo is messed up but this is the only way it works.

What's with the insulation on the tubing to the CPU block? You running a water chiller?

It's not really a water-chiller, but I use Coleman blue-ice to chill the coolant down a little during benchmarking or o/cing. I use Insuflex for the 1/2" and Armaflex for the 3/8" tubing :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/fusion3x/MK2008/MK2008_206.jpg

If I run the cpu on stock (ie. 2.33Ghz), then there will be minor condensation on the tubing from the cpu to gpu. Very very minor, my cam can't seem to capture the condensation, but you can feel it when you touch the tubing.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/fusion3x/MK2008/DSC03156.jpg

But I am running the cpu at 3.6Ghz, and I have not observed any condensation for the un-insulated tubings.

Plus each freshly-taken-out-of-the-freezer blue-ice barely last an hour, and the best it can do is to reduce the reservoir temps down to 23- 25 degs Celsius before temps start climbing again.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/fusion3x/MK2008/DSC03157.jpg

So the coldest point in the whole loop will be the intake tubing from the reservoir to the pump and from the pump to the cpu, so I insulated that out of precaution.

Sadly I've had many things die in this machine, first it was a 650w PSU from powmax

second it was the video card and was causing post problems and weird boot issues(9600GT XFX)

lastly and the worst was the HD a WD 500GB and I did have much of it backed up os it wasnt much of an issue but just the fact that I've installed windows over 3 times in this system

cabose1227
06-30-08, 05:15 PM
The Powmax psu probably caused all of those problems, powmax is very low quality.

evilpballer07
06-30-08, 05:26 PM
Ya i figured that after the fact, honestly I got it because it was high Wattage, was gold casing and had a blue 120mm fan, at one point I actually smelled something burning, which i immeditaly turned off the system fearing something was running too hot, then a few days later it died

Got one in my bedroom, one in the shipping box in my exercise room, and one I gave my brother to install in his car since I lost my license. I had 3 in my old Jeep Grand Cherokee... went through 6 rear-view mirrors haha. If I didn't get an AMAZING deal on them I wouldn't have been able to afford them (paid $150 each brand new direct from the JL Audio Sales Rep).

If I didn't get an AMAZING deal on them I wouldn't have been able to afford them (paid $150 each brand new direct from the JL Audio Sales Rep).

Thats a steal!!! I need a new box for my subs tho....My 92' cherokee rattles a lot..screws from everything unscrew...and my front window had a crack and..yeah, you can pretty much guess how cracked my window is now....

Hehe... my Jeep did that too since I had mine lifted and would always go four wheeling. I went through suspension pieces like underwear, though underwear was definitely changed more often. My next car I want a Volvo S60R 6-Speed, cars are SEXXXY and the Volvos already come with great speaker locations with plenty of trunk space for subs.

I looked at the mods on the 1st page and then the last page-to much in between! No body thinks outside the box. My mod started as a whim for a contest going on at AOA.
http://www.aoaforums.com/frontpage/content/category/1/26/46/
As it turns out, I'm going to finish this mod and then take what I've learned and build a bigger model for a a regular case.

It started as a whim but the benefits became clear. Long cables and you can open it up without disconnecting a thing. It could even be opened while running!. As a Lan case, It can't be beat, disconnect, grab the handle and go.
Overclocking options are wide open. Ventilation is obvious and fans are left to the to the skills of the fabricator.
Think outside the box, sometimes there is a benefit! (Even if it's only for you!)

Hello everyone.
Here's a picture of my rig. It's stayed the same for a while now, so some of you might recongize it. I'm trying to brainstorm for a new project. I'm only stuck on what case to pick and also a color scheme.

Pics :D

This was when I first built the rig. (Before cable management)
http://i36.tinypic.com/2eqcnc9.jpg

Most recent picture. Cellphone picture, don't hate. BTW, there is NO blue at all. Just UV reaction to the camera.
http://i33.tinypic.com/3483al2.jpg

And some "nice" digital camera pictures.

I also use 2 monitors now. Pic above has my 22" moved just so you can see the PC. And the PC doesn't sit there like that. (Refer to "recent" pic)

28" Panasonic CRT (4 years old I think) plugged in as well as an Acer 22" LCD. HP DV8372 (which I've upped the RAM to 2GB on) laptop, HP C4205 printer (didn't deliberately get them to match, I got the printer for a good price). Two 500GB USB HDDs hiding behind the monitor. The laptop is also hooked into an Onkyo HiFi because laptop speakers suck :).

Note 1: The laptop is not about to fall off. I have to angle it so the vent isn't over the desk or it tends to overheat running folding and turn itself off.
Note 2: The picture is crap, I expected better from a Fuji. I was too lazy to dig out the D40 and find the SDHC card reader (the laptop SD reader wont read SDHC).
Note 3: The DVDs under the TV, teddy bear and diary on the desk belong to my girlfriend).
Note 4: When I have the cash (hopefully before or just after Christmas) I plan to replace the laptop with a quad core PC and get a netbook for portable use. Whenever I can afford a Samsung 37A5 or 37A6 it will replace the Panasonic.

The computer.

It's a temporary solution that seems to have become permanent. My case is missing the mobo distances, and ones of the correct lenght are nowhere to be found. I had everything on my GA-P35-DS3 box, but it was clumsy and dusty, so I cut some holes in my old MSI 915G Combo box, and voilà! A new case. How many other cardboard box-cases have you seen with an INTEGRATED CARD READER? :santa:

I usually also have my laptop on the left side.

The BenQ is quite amazing if you can put up with the cabinet. Its an MVA panel so the color and viewing angles are superb. I can't believe its so cheap now. I want another! Alas.. no more room on the desk. That leaves the walls....

All joking aside, the button interface is laggy but the panel itself is superb. You should have no reservations regarding picking one up. Shoot me a PM for detailed questions.

Here is a current pic of my setup. Last time I posted I was using a fold out table from staples. I got this desk from an antique shop my brother works at for $50. It's bigger than it looks in the picture. It's an old office desk, with pull out typewriter trays. I really love it.

I'm working on getting my main rig back up and into a case again. Current caseless system pictured on the floor beside the desk.

Here's my system with a new monitor I got free...Not that I had room for it, and now my lappy sits atop my case.

i planning on it was thinking about some yate loon mediams 120 for front and back or some highs with speed controller as u can c i have the side panel off since i get 5deg drop in temps but ya the stockers suck and they dont move any air!

FatCamel
01-11-09, 04:36 PM
I cut a hole in the side panel for an extra 120 and slapped a cover over it and it looked pretty awesome while dropping temps several degrees

danbroke
01-11-09, 04:44 PM
i thought about it. have pics for ideas? i also soon might try watercooling putting the 3x120 rad on top with mounting kit. but i think it would be an alright case with better fans!

FatCamel

The comp has been gutted for a while now but I think you get the picture. I couldn't place it over the proc because it would hit my heatsink but with a high airflow fan this dropped my temps on my card as well as my proc.

thanks! i liked the orange theme, but i had to use a different fluid b/c the orange is too thick and temps are high.

...still waiting for the chipset and mosfet block though. I'm hoping it will look a tad bit more better. Hehehe

Haven't been here in a long time.
My rig used to have a color scheme with UV-green coolant and orange anti-kink coils and UV lighting, but I felt this current color scheme complimented the "Biohazard" theme.

Just finished dusting and making a few minor repairs to the cooling equipment. The plexi is a little scuffed though unfortunately... The cables look like they're bundled and in the way but they are actually behind the opening for the air flow from the intake fans. The only exception is the MB/videocard cables which aren't too bad.

im in the process of building a new desk around my room
this is what it will look like when i am done:
i love google sketchup...everything is scaled exactly as the room is laid out and the only thing i am missing in real life....the desk and the matching chairs (they are all mismatched at this time)

My setup is very similar, but setup with my tv on the left end, for Xbox 360 gaming, then a few laptops, one desktop in the corner, and another on the right.

specs:

chassis: Thermaltake Armor vh6000bws
mobo: MSI x58 Platinum SLI mobo
cpu: Intel 920 i7 2.66ghz oc'd to 4.0ghz
ram: 3gb ddr3 pc12800 tri channel 9-9-9-24
gfx: XFX Geforce 9800gtx+ 512mb

dvd rom: 22x Liteon dual layer burner
storage: 1tb seagate sata drive
200gb seagate ide drive
200gb WD ide drive
psu: Kingwin 730watt modular

Cable management behind the mobo tray isn't the cleanest but it works and gets it out of the visible bay.

I'm going to be swapping out the 2 200 ide's for larger sata's, and adding another rom drive(probably a blu ray, and then swapping to water cooling instead of the v10.

Temps are right at 97-99 at idle(with the case inside of the desk door)
with the pc under light load it's at 102-109
with the pc under heavy load it's running 115-132
all temps are in Fahrenheit.

tear down and paint the mobo tray and insides with flat black to look a lil better.

Yea, the Scout is a good case for the money, been very pleased with mine! I have the side fans blowing in toward the motherboard. My Enzotech CPU cooler seems to like the breeze...and I'm afraid my 4890s might catch fire if they didn't get a little air, lol, suckers run real hot.

I need to post up another picture in the dark without flash on my camera...the case looks really sweet in the dark. All the case fans glow a real dim red, my ram has red LEDS that look sweet, and even the motherboard has some red LEDs. With all the red and black components it looks pretty bad a$$ at night.

Thanks!

Edit...and yes, they make a pretty big difference in system/GPU/CPU temps blowing in. You would have to have a very odd setup to warrant them blowing out.

I'll get the night pic up later when the sun goes down, it really is pretty cool...well, I think so, lol.

Got ya...well, for what it's worth I only have the side fans running about 800 rpms, just enough to feel the slightest breeze on my hand. Any higher rpm than that and they make a ton of racket (air noise) because of the way the case's window is slotted. I did a little off the cuff testing during the build, the end result was about the same temps as having the case door off. Maybe good for 4-5c...except on my 4890s....just that little breeze cools them down 10c as opposed to not having it.

nice
i just got my 5850 in and wow was it a tight install the card i got is a little bigger then the other 5850 so i had to put it on my bottom slot so the fan for the gpu is right on the psu so im gonna buy a new fan for the case to blow fresh air into the card should help with temps
pics coming soon

I'm jealous! Nice thing is your card is more powerful, yes much cooler and more efficient. I'd get rid of my 4890s in a minute if they didn't dominate everything I throw at them. Once DirectX 11 starts to become the norm I'll probably dump them off, but until then I'm gonna "drive 'em like I stole 'em!"

Still, tight fit or not, gotta love the Storm Scout...best case I ran since my old Antec 900. I liked that case too, lol.

By the way...take a look at my cards again...my top card is sucking air right off the bottom card...I mean they are close...but both cards report the same temps. Might be 'cause of my door fans though ;)

I'll have to get a few more of my rig but here's a few pictures. The first are before I swapped most of my parts out and built one from the old stuff lol

Here's a quick shot of the newest setup. I'll get some better ones.

My old setup was
asus a8n 32 sli deluxe
amd 4600
bfg 8800gt
corsair 750w
generic old ide drives
2gb ocz ram

New setup is
asus p5k premium
intel e6850
bfg 8800gt
corsair 750w
8gb crucial red tracer
32gb ssd
1tb sata drive

Pretty happy with the upgrade and I used the old parts, bought an 8800gts and a new psu and built my family a new rig. I also painted my antec 900 case black inside and out.

Congrats guys, I just felt in love with this forum, was doing my own MOD, but im too cheap to buy a fancy case so Im just modding what I have, a regular and boring case.

and also play with sketchup for additional modding, this is what im planning to do with my chair

Oh no, I find Sketchup too much simple to use dude, and its a google free application, a basic render looks like this

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_xSv-DqkX4SA/TENpRgbr5uI/AAAAAAAAAHE/Pai9JW1yp_E/s800/DreamStationxxx.jpg

For a realistic render I Use a plugin (Vray for sketchup),

sketchup also has a hughe free 3d model library where u can upload or download whatever u want.

here is a another case i did,

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=159d8a12baf7d47fb89ca298cd9a646

Im planning to make it real. adding an ICEQ eyefinity video card, and a cool fan controller with lcd screen and leds.

Phenom X6 1090t

Sounds to me like my next x-mas project
