Ok I have 2 systems linked using a crossover cable....I got a DSL modem recently and had planned to connect it by adding an additional NIC to my system. Well that all working fine, my problem comes when I want to play games over the LAN. Everything was working fine until I installed the second NIC. Everything still works fine except when I try to Search for a game over the LAN and it doesn't seem to be able to find anything. I'm guessing since the second NIC also has IPX working that there is a conflict with is and my onboard LAN which also has IPX working for gaming(Delta Force 2).

I'm afriad to tinker with the settings unknowningly and really screwing things up worse. I've had fits getting it working initially and I really don't want that same headache to return. Anyone know how to sort out the IPX's so that the second NIC going to my DSL doesn't conflict with my onboard LAN IPX for gaming?

System #1
ecs k7s5a
duron 700@868
SIS900 onboard LAN
netgear FA310tx

System #2
soyo 5ema+
k6-2 500
NIC w/realtek RTL8139

As I said everything was working fine until the second NIC was was installed on system #1. Now when I try to play games over the LAN system#2 can't seem to find the game. I always host with system #1, but I suppose I could try the other way around to see if it works...

Thanks for any assistance.

Your dsl should not need ipx on the second nic card, it should only use tcp/ip. Try removing it from the second and leaving it on the first.

Agreed, ipx is only needed for file transfer and some games, oh yeah... and netware... :D If the only thing connected to the other card is your DSL modem, you should be able to remove everything for it except TCP/IP. Were I you I would also unbind file and printer sharing from that NIC because that's one of the most exploited windows security holes (open shares on broadband). So yeah, the NIC that connects to the other computer needs TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and File/Printer Sharing, the one to the DSL Modem needs only TCP/IP.
Good luck and let us know how it goes...
Peace

thanks all is well soon as I can actually use my DSL.... no line filters and mine won't work without them.

Is this true for others? Or am I going to get really crappy pings? If so will they be better than 56k? :D if so im still happy..i think
