I want to add a switch to one of my fans that will blow on my gf2 in addition to the ones I have running now.So when in heavy gaming I can turn it on and when not I dont have to listen to the noise.Doesnt seem like a good idea to put a switch on the fan that plugs into the mobo so my question is which wire/wires do I use to add the switch with the ps plug - 4 wire plug red/yellow and 2 blacks also will using this switch cause power spikes/drops?

If you're putting in a simlpe toggle switch then conect it in series on either the red or black wire. The red wire would conform to normal wiring practice. I assume you're using a 4-pin power suplly connector? If so remember not to use the yellow wire, that is the 5V line and isn't normally used by fans. Unless you go for the 7V mod of course :)

A better idea may be to use a rheostat or pottentiometer as an alternative, this will allow you to vary the voltage and fan speed rather than just on or off.

Go to www.fanbus.com (http://www.fanbus.com) and look around. He has wiring diagrams and tutorials.

Thanks for the link - just what I was looking for and works as I wanted it to.

it's best to use the black wire, just incase it shorts out it's only going to short to ground.

If you use a red wire, and it shorts out it will take down your system.

My two cents.
