I think Vibe is a sort of Hip Hop African American type of magazine, back at an old job at the news stand I frequently went through them all. It's not quite source and not quite people, something in between from skimming through.

theres always too much argument in those magazines. if its not one person having beef with another its whos the best pimp in the nation. well, at least vibe magazine is more music oriented, which is more than i can say for xxl.
Ok, I have to ask...pre tell, what is a "black" magazine?I am not sure what "pre tell" means, but a "'black' magazine" is a magazine for blacks. The meaning may also be interpreted as a magizine that is the color black.

they are not blacks, they are either Afro-Americans or African Americans :D
btw, VIBE is geared toward the African American race, but that doesnt mean a caucasion person cannot enjoy it, especially if you have a fetish for afro-american women...
just my 2 cents.

That is what I meant. Besides most of the hip-hop related PURCHASES are by caucasian suburban teens.
"Interestingly, nearly 70 percent of those sales are to white suburban youth, a striking transformation considering rap music’s beginnings." Link (http://www.black-collegian.com/extracurricular/entertainment/hiphop2001-1st.shtml)
"This current crop of wannabes isn't all that different from previous generations, with one exception. Societal and familial breakdowns, coupled with the aforementioned distance between urban rap artists and suburban rap fans." Link (http://www.tucsonweekly.com/gbase/currents/Content?oid=oid:42500)
"The Boston Globe reports that over 70% of all rap music purchases are by white suburban youth. Rap and hip hop music overall has a listening audience that is 75% non-black." Link (http://www.acton.org/ppolicy/comment/article.php?id=256)

Ok, I have to ask...pre tell, what is a "black" magazine?
Um,are you dumb,or just trying to start a racial flaming thread out of a thread meant to be helpful?
In case your just dumb, I think he meant that the magazine was geared towards african-americans,commonly referred to as "Black" men, women and children. This is a very common reference, just like I am considered "White",or caucasian.
Although your references state percentages that may contradict my statements, there are variables that havent been factored into those equations, such as average income by demographic, peer-to-peer file sharing, copying a disk that you bought and giving it to a friend, and so forth.
Let me turn this around on you and ask these questions:
1- What percentage of Heavy Metal CD purchases are from african-americans? How about classical music,or country music. How about all music CD purchases made for every genre combined?
Please post links to show that the 70% stated for whites purchasing rap/hip-hop CDs is not consistent with the percentage of total CD purchases for all genres combined. My bet is that,if you do the research, you will find that ALL music CD purchases combined more than likely reflect that caucasians
account for a similar percentage.
If you can't or refuse to do this research, then your unfairly attacking an entire race based on biased and unfair statistics, and shouldnt comment on the matter anymore.

Depending where your are from the term black does not mean the same thing when refering to another human being, therefore his question is valid.

Sorry bud, but your wrong.Check out the dictionary definition:
n.
1.
a. The achromatic color value of minimum lightness or maximum darkness; the color of objects that absorb nearly all light of all visible wavelengths; one extreme of the neutral gray series, the opposite being white. Although strictly a response to zero stimulation of the retina, the perception of black appears to depend on contrast with surrounding color stimuli.
b. A pigment or dye having this color value.
2. Complete or almost complete absence of light; darkness.
3. Clothing of the darkest hue, especially such clothing worn for mourning.
4. often Black
a. A member of a racial group having brown to black skin, especially one of African origin.
b. An American descended from peoples of African origin having brown to black skin; an African American.
Check it out yourself:Definition Link (http://sb.thefreedictionary.com/black)
Here's the link to Meriiam-Websters definition in case you thought of disputing the integrity of my first reference: Merriam-Webster (http://www.m-w.com/) ,Then select the NOUN definition of the word black. You'll see that the most well-known and most respected expert in the area of definitions confirms that the word "Black" is commonly used as a reference to african-americans.You'll also see that "White" is a well-know way to describe a caucasian.
PS- I was in the middle of editing my comment when I saw that you replied. There is more added to my comment if you choose to comment on that,as well. So, it seems like the question really isnt valid after all!
If your first language isn't english and you were having to translate this into your own language it would not make sense, I know all that question would mean in portuguese for example is that the magazine is black, or dark meaning evil. And for someone that is visiting the forums from other countries with limited knowledge of American English would translate it the same way. I know this for a fact as my first language is portuguese, and I speak English as well as Spanish, so I have a extensive knowledge of different stages of learning a new languages and how ambigius language can be and you knowledge is limited, it's kind of like translating a joke, most likely it will not be as funny as it was in the original language if it is funny at all. Also not everyone checks the dictionary although that should be the first place to look. I don't mean that he doesn't know what "black" means in this context because that is something don't know, what I'm saying is that the meaning of words come from our own experiences and what "black" means to you might not mean the same to someone else.

If your first language isn't english and you were having to translate this into your own language it would not make sense
Your argument is invalid since we are posting on a forum thats in all english, and therefor it is assumed that any people who have english as a second language should translate based on english, and not their origional language

It seems that your unwillling to see my point(I'm not asking you to agree but to see it from my perspective), you cannot expect someone to think the same way you do, and that is what causes misunderstanding. No one else here or elsewhere thinks the same way you do and I will not turn someone way from the forums just because they cannot properly translate what is on the forums and if I see that I am to help translate I do. If it makes your happy you are right and I'm wrong, this argument is over and the next thing you post will go without any answer from me. After all this is not important to the point of the thread.

My point exactly! I was challenging someone who appeared to be starting a racial flame war to provide the entire story, rather than just the parts that prove his/her point.I was merely challenging him to do this,or stop the flaming.I do see your point of view, and realized it when I was replying. But my mission was specific,so I catered to the person who I origionally was responding to.To be honest, though, Websters is the most trusted resource for definitions--not just locally, but globally. The poster also posted as if he/she was well-educated,so his argument seemed to be meant to start trouble. After all, if I am correct that he/she is an intelligent person, then they should be smart enough to access the mosttrusted resource for definitions. He wasnt confused,IMHO, but just trying to be a smart-ass and start a racial flaming thread out of a post intended to benefit all members of these forums, including black men and women.Dont take offence to my replies--they werent intended to be offensive.

Ok people why don't we all just calm down here. The thing about translating is a dumb argument. It's an internation forum and many people are from other nations, there will be mistakes in translating the lingo. (there us pretty much no pperfect translation.) Anyway thanks for the link, I always like free stuff. Though I will let them save their time and money and just reframe from ordering this since I am not to much into the hip-hop life style.
PS: Webster seems to have an image of black being evil also, along with a color and many other defs:
6 a : thoroughly sinister or evil : WICKED <a black deed> b : indicative of condemnation or discredit <got a black mark for being late>
7 : connected with or invoking the supernatural and especially the devil

Yes, there are alot of words that have more than 1 definition,or can be used as an adjective, noun, verb or whatever.I am also aware that this forum is open to anyone in any country, however, if you read the posts you will see that the person I am responding to speaks intelligently, and uses larger words when more simple words can be used. This leads me to believe that English is not his/her second language. The forums are also in english only, and you would be hard pressed to find threads on here that arent in english.
Anyway, I was just bored at work and having fun :)

I soooo knew this was going to blow up into a PC matter  that's why I pretty much summed up what the magainze was. Relax everyone, anyone can read the magazine if you are interested in that type of current culture music/clothing/gossip/fad stuff/etc all I'll say is I believe it is GEARED towards African Americans which is perfectly fine for someone who isn't to still check it out. :)
By the way, I don't read these type of magazines People, Source, Vibe, etc Gossip & other things that do not interest me what so ever. Although there is a huge market for it. Working in a place that had a giant news stand, you can't help but riffle through every single magainze to see what's good & what's not.

I just signed up. Now I will be abreast of important news in hip-hop/urban culture. Booyay!
Google says:
VIBE.com: VIBE Magazine Online: Your online urban authorityCovers hip hop/urban culture with a focus on music. Articles, interviews, and subscription information.
Oh, and there are plenty of white 'african americans' out there too and people of color who do not like hip hop, and white people who do. A little Google can bring the cultural sensitivity a long way.
