OK, I've had this for quite some time but never really got around to using it. I had planned on going back to school when I bought it but never did. Next spring I will be going back to finish up on my CS degree.
Problem. I finished the second year of Computer Science nearly 8 years ago. Needless to say, things have changed a bit, haha. I will probably start all over from the beginning as far as the programming classes go. Calculus and such, I'll just have to clear the dust from my head and hope I can remember some of it.
Now, considering the fact that I'm going to be hammered re-learning all the programming stuff (and then some) from yester-year, what do those of you say about getting into the Visual Studio (primarily C++) side of things now? I'm pretty much only wanting to get a kick start and have a little fun. Between now and then all I can really hope to do is get a grasp on the GUI, functions, etc. so I'm not really concerned with getting the absolute basics of C at the moment...that will most certainly come. I'm just wanting to get somewhat familiar with some of it and have fun as well (while learning a little).
When I entered the uni in this field back in '92 it was all done on UNIX terminals, completely command line-based. Internet was not in homes yet (at least nowhere widespread) and we only had connectivity to BBSs and Gopher sites for online info. Windows 1.3 was the current MS OS and DOS 6.0 ruled the PC world.
I guess, what I am asking now, is what do they use in PC labs today that I would find different from when I was in school then? I have no idea what to expect. I'll probably find out during counseling sessions but that will be some time from now.
Sorry for the lenghty thread and thanks so much for any input you guys give.
