I am trying to learn how to mount and burn ISO's but I am so confused I feel like throwing my computer on the ground.

Ive tried with Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools and neither can find an ISO on F.E.A.R. What am I doing wrong??!!

Help Please!!

it depends on where ya got the ISO from as to what help you will recieve here. If you purchased hte game and are just wanting to make a backup copy... we can go from there. If not and you got this game from a less reputable source than the store.... then there isn't anything we can do to help you here and I would suggest you take that line of inquery some place else.

Burn ISO backup CD or put it on your harddrive so you don't have to put the cd in to play?

Burn ISO so I dont have to use the CD.

Doesn't nero convert cds/dvds into .iso files? I can't remember how, but it seems like I've done it before w/ nero.

Nero does burn .ISO images. I did it earlier to run Memtest86 on the computer in my sig, but Flakmonkey wants to know how to copy it to his harddrive so he doesn't have to put in the cd to play it.

hmm... As to copy it to an ISO... it can be done with Nero and i'm sure any other Software that can burn CD's. However... what software do you have available to you? I'm sure we can help you find a solution.

It appears that FEAR uses a SecuROM copy protection scheme which I'm pretty sure uses bad sectors on the disk to validate it as well as blacklisting image drives. You can try to figure out the correct settings yourself but its probably more of a headache than its worth and you'll need something that masks D-Tools as well as it doesn't have self-hiding functionality built into it (yet...). There are lots of places where you can find 'mini-images' which look like the real disk and expand out to the disks actual size but really just contain the information the game looks for on the cd check on runtime (about 3 MiB of data). Since the code is never actually executed there isn't really any threat of acquiring a virus this way but the anti-blacklisting tools are another matter.

you can get a game fix for the game (an alternative EXE file if im not mistaken) (i think they are still legal) so you can play with a backup cd of the game (or an ISO on the hard drive like you want). you need to make an ISO of the cd 1st though. i only know how to do it in nero so if you have nero we can go from there.
if you want a link to the game fix pm me because i don't think i should post the site link here.
you can also get a "no disc" game fix but im not going to go into those here. pm me if you want more info.

Simply backing up the game to an ISO using nero wont cut it. You dont have to use a "alternative" exe. Im not sure if im allowed to go into detail though. Better safe than sorry

FEAR has drive emulation detection, you will have to get a program to hide daemon tools while you are using it, if you google around there are a number of them I believe

also from my experiance Alcohol 120% makes the best backups although they are mdf and mds instead of iso

You do not have to use an alternative exe, you just need some software that hides the image drives. I don't know if f.e.a.r. uses punkbuster, but if it does, modified exes will get you banned.

Screw it. Its more of a hassle then its worth. Thanks for the help though, maybe someone else will use this thread.
