Just switched my main seti cruncher to windows 2000 pro. Hopefully it will help my seti times. Is there anything i should know that is special with windows 2k.

Not really. Disabling some of the services you don't use can free up some resources for you. Ones like print spooler if you don't have a printer, event log if you never plan on using it, alerter service, remote registry service, task scheduler if you don't use it, can all be set to manual and stopped. Might not free up a whole lot of resources but any is good.

Win2K is superior to NT and 98/Me with it's memory management so you should get better WU completion times by that alone.

It will probably slow your times down unless you tweak it heavily.

If you run Sisoft Sandra "Performance Tuneup Wizard" it will list the Services that can be diablsed. Rather than actually disabling the Services I tend to set them to Manual, this allows the system to call on them if need be.
You can find the Services in Control Panel/Administrative Tools.

Thanks for the info! I will try that this afternoon. Hopefully this will help the operating system. Right now it is a little buggy, and I have to get use to the NT part.
