Just another thread regarding the x800gto2.

I wanna unlock this baby asap--checked out the fuses e.t.c., everythings cool and it can unlock--yet I dunno if I need new cooling?
In my other thread someone said I should get mk1? or ceramique?
I only have artic silver 5 right now--could I use it?

Where would I put the compounds?
Is it even required?
Or should I just chill on it all till I get the zalman gpu cooler I was gonna jump on soon anyways for overclocking?

You can unlock it without the need of new cooling, but do get some good thermal compound for when you're going to upgrade your cooling. Thermal compound is required and AS5 is not recomended as its conductive and if some of it gets onto the GPU's PCB could cause problems.

You can use artic silver provided you're careful and only keep it on the gpu. However, in the chance that you make a mistake, it is reccomended that you get non capacitive (as5 is non conductive iirc) paste so any mistake you make, won't be your card's last.

aight thx guys.

Now where would I apply the capacitive? Remove the metal thing on the back up the gpu that covers the ram? Or remove the fan assembly and put it there? Or elseware??

Also--name some good compounds I should get.

Ceramique is the TIM of choice for video cards. You can use it on both the ram and the core of the card. If you already have some AS5 you can use that on the core instead.
