View Full Version : Advice-What NOT to buy
I bought a thermaltake mini-orb CPU-cooler for my athlon 1.333... they suck! the cooling was poor, the actual heatsink is really tall and cumbersome (no idea why they're called mini!). For some reason they also decided to have two small fans instead of one decent one... this makes more whiny noise. The worst part is that the heatsink managed to move somehow and FRIED MY CHIP! Don't buy these things. Dabs.com have already taken them off their shelves after complaints....
Hope this helps someone!

I wholeheartedly second that gripe. Most orbs are sub-par as far as CPU cooling goes. My mini copper orb kept me at a toasty 51-56 full load non-OCed on a 1.4 Tbird 266 FSB AYHJA Y. What a waste! It's a major factor in my recent decision to get a bong cooler and get some decent temps.
does no-one know the other meaning for bong? or is it just not mentionned here?
most people here think "bong" means "cooling tower". Personally, I think we need a new name for bong coolers so we (I) don't confuse them with the real thing.
Every time I see the word bong in a thread I get my hopes up......;)

on my old celly 800 i was running a golden orb and had it o.c.ed to 920 and i had very nice temps with it. but now with my 1.1 t-bird i use watercooling.

That sounds kinda fun, as long as you don't forget to start them. I can imagine it gettting old after a while, though.
Usually the orbs aren't good to go with Sockets... The Dorb isnt bad but there are other ones...
SK6 are really nice #2 for the best hsf and #1 is the Swiftech 462-A I think..
Or get a Glaciator!

yeah im glad, i was gonna get an orb and some kind oc.com people steered me away...shwoooh :)
you've gotta give it to them, they look pretty cool with the twisted bit.... but ,as in life, looks mean very little!
Anyone have ony comments regarding the DragonOrb3 HSF???
Most of what I have read on it is all positive, and I like the idea of utilizing all 6 lugs for stability...Any suggestions???
Thanks in advance...:)

No personal experience with DO3, just Thermaltake in general. What I've heard can be summerized into this, it's essentially the Super Orb with a lower probability of cracking your core. By no means a performance cooler.

Well for the slotket's they are an ok cheap slot cooler that basically does the job for the lower mhz like mine which is 500mhz.. but for the socket you shouldn't be wasting your money on it becuz you have better options heh

Wasting money isn't much of an issue for me. I've certainly gotten US$12 worth of cooling out of my orb. Now I hope to get US$150 worth of cooling out of my bong.

That goes double for Orbs
a few members have Dragons and they do a good job cooling chips but I still don't like the company.
