Im asking for a dremel for christmas. Which kit would be the best for modding/cutting or the best deal? I had a cordless in mind too, but either cordless or corded would be fine.

So far ive found these that i like

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=94846-353-3962-02&lpage=none

And this accessory kit

What are your opinions?

i have the multipro kit and i'm very happy with it, works well for cutting and grinding, but you will probably need to buy more cutting disks, i can't remember how many mine came with but they didn't last long.

Looks like the rotary tool kit comes with a flex shaft, i've never used one, but i heard they aren't the best for long term use. maybe someone else has some comments on them.

its funny... im ALSO getting a dremel for Xmas. Except my dad's fairly familiar with power tools and what not (good woods-craftsman) so I assumed he would pick up a decent one thats not too much money.

I'll probably post back here post Xmas with pics etc.

if you guys have or know anybody who has membership to costco/price club, the multi-pro kit with flex shaft are 59.99.

i went to other stores(electrical and hardware) the price was higher and some of their kits didn't include the flex shaft.

don't get a cordless. It sucks alot when your in the middle of a mod and your run out of battery.

Try and go for a multipro. Those are usually good. The flexshaft is also a good addition if the kit includes one.

When you buy disks, look for reinforced fiberglass cutting disks. they will last longer than the normal disks.

Is it me or do you loose alot of power when the flexshaft is attached?

Is the flex shaft worth it? I mean if its not, its less my grandma has to spend on my christmas. (I already loaded my parents with like over 300 dollars of stuff to buy me :santa: )

I bought it tried using it a couple times. It's oiled and it still sucks. I have "gorilla" hands my friends like to call them. So I use the dremel like a magnum marker. I wanted it for small spaces to cut and grind, but it takes so long with the flex shaft. I would say not to get it, but you may want secound opinions.

i got the flex shaft and it works good for me and as said before "When you buy disks, look for reinforced fiberglass cutting disks they will last longer than the normal disks." also make sure to get the one with adjustable speed cause the ones with just on and off suck when you are trying to do somthing carefully

Well, I decided just to go with a simple kit. That way i dont pay for things that ill never use.

Multi Pro Rotary tool kit (http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1375199&cp=1254873.1254951.1259378&parentPage=family&searchId=1259378)

I bought the Dremel kit that came with all the basics, everything in the above picture less the flex neck. It came with a bunch of cutting disc, which break after they are used a bit. But dremels are about the most versatile tools, you can fix almost anything with a dremel.

That's the exact Dremel I used for my projects (borrowed it from a friend) and it worked GREAT. It is powerful enough to cut through a solid steel frame side panels. I also used it to cut thin aluminum sheet, plexiglass, and drill holes. It is exactly what it is called, a "Multi-Pro"!!! :santa:
I doubt you will be disappointed with it.

Yeah it was either that or the one your talking about, but they were both the same price so it thought... what the heck might as well.

I have the 400 Series XPR™ Rotary Tool Kit and I love it, it's a really nice one.

the flex shafts are great, I don't even use mine without it anymore, it makes doing stuff so much easier, especialy any detail work, it's just so much easier to hold and control what you are doing with it.

Yeah I plan to buy the Dremel 400 XPR. I sure do like the flex-shaft addition as it will help dearly in detailed case mods, and other work.
